We’ve all got a baggy, shapeless dress somewhere in our wardrobe, right?

And of course we can cinch it with a belt. But then we have a baggy, shapeless dress with a belt around it.

How about making it into a stylish, draped dress without needing to sew a stitch?

Want to see how I did it? Of course you do.

Tools and materials:

  • Baggy dress
  • Large hair tie
Baggy dress

1. The dress

Below the knee length works best for this. Apart from that, the baggier the better.

In fact, the more surplus fabric you have, the more creative you can be with this hack.

Hair tie

2. The hair tie

This needs to be one of the large, thick ones, not the lightweight invisible type.

Don’t worry what color it is, you’re not going to see it.

Flipping fabric

3. The flip

Flip your dress upwards so you can grab the fabric at around waist level from the inside.

Gathering fabric

4. The gather

Scrunch the excess fabric together in one hand and wrap the hair tie around the base to secure it.

Now let the dress go, smoothe it down and see how it looks. Maybe you want to adjust the position of the gather or make it tighter or looser. It’s up to you.

But you’ve got to admit, your baggy dress looks a lot more stylish now that it’s ruched and cinched, doesn’t it?
