The Winter Hack You Need to Know to Keep From Looking Frumpy

I love pairing my chunky boots with trousers, but I have to admit it can look a bit frumpy. My pants cover the top of the boots and it looks like I’m wearing heavy, ugly shoes.

But there’s a way to fix this, and all it takes is two hair ties. Let’s get to it!

Tools and materials:

  • 2 hair ties
Dressed in outfit

1. Get dressed

Put on your pants and boots and remind yourself how frumpy you look.

Adding hair tie

2. Add the hair tie

Fold the bottom of your pants to the side and pull on an elastic hair tie over it.

Leave an inch or two of pants below the tie.

Pulling tie up

3. Pull up

Pull the tie up until the bottom of your pants is above the top of your boots.

Tucking pants into boots

4. Tuck in

Tuck the bottom of your pants inside your boots.

Let the pants balloon over the hair tie to cover it.

Repeat on the other leg.

The end result is pretty neat, don’t you think?

This is also an excellent way to save the bottom of your pants from getting dirty if it’s snowing or raining hard. And it will keep the salt off your hemline as well. Just a win-win all round!

Tell me in the comments what you think and if you’re going to use it this winter.

I also did this growing up in NY, but yes the elastic band would dig into my legs. So I just use a pair of Cotton socks 🧦 to tuck the pants in. Much more comfortable and my feet were warm

Thanks for the reply, Mary! Yes, it makes perfect sense and I do have short legs, but, I'm not a fashion icon and always put sensibility and comfort above the 'look' in the winter! 😁
