Here’s a quick hack to give you not one but two new looks for your maxi skirt. You’ll need a skirt with a full or partial lining for this.

I used a safety pin to hold the bodice in place, but if you have a stunning brooch or clip you can make that a feature of this as well.

Tools and materials:

  • Lined maxi skirt
  • Large safety pin or brooch
Maxi skirt

1. Pull up the lining

Wear your skirt as normal.

Pulling the lining up

Pull the lining up at the waistline.

Lining over one shoulder

2. One shoulder

When the lining is under your arms, hold the front and back edges at the shoulder on one side.

Pinning fabric

3. Pin

Grab a large safety pin, or a pretty brooch.

Pinning fabric

Pin the two edges together on your shoulder.

If you’re using a safety pin, make sure it’s out of sight.

DIY one shoulder dress

Tuck any excess lining back into the waistband.

Enjoy wearing your glamorous one-shouldered dress.

And for your bonus hack, you can pin the lining together on both shoulders for a sleeveless, cowl neck effect.
