If you just thrifted a denim jacket, but you want to turn it into something brand new, try out this simple hack!

All you need is bleach, and you can turn a standard thrift item into something entirely unique for your closet or to give away as a gift.

Let’s get started.

Tools and materials:

  • Denim jacket
  • Bleach
  • Bucket
Putting gloves on

1. Put on gloves

Safety first. When you’re handling bleach, you should always wear gloves to prevent irritation.

Filling bucket

2. Submerge your jacket in bleach and water

Get a bucket that will be big enough to hold your denim jacket.

Submerging jacket

Add enough bleach and water so you can completely submerge your jacket.

Letting jacket sit

3. Let it sit

Let your denim jacket sit until you see the bleach has developed.

Rinsing jacket

4. Rinse

Rinse your jacket to get all of the excess bleach out of the denim.

Drying jacket

5. Dry

Throw your denim jacket in the dryer.
