How to Do Super Cute Crochet Faux Locs at Home

Hi dolls! If you want to learn how to style crochet faux locs, follow along with this simple tutorial.
Not only is this protective style cute and affordable, it’s also a really fun DIY project. Let’s get started.
Tools and materials:
- Elastics for cornrows (about 12)
- Weaving needle
- Latch hook
- Crochet locs (24 inch pack)
- Hair gel
- Dreadlock clips
Preparing hair & creating DIY crochet faux locs
1. Braid cornrows
First, cornrow your hair. Mine is braided into twelve parts.
2. Sew loose ends
Sew up your loose ends to the French braided part because your natural hair won’t blend with the faux locs.
3. Open latch hook
Open your latch hook like this:
4. Make a loop
Next, take your crochet faux loc and open the loop.
5. Crochet the faux loc
Start by sticking your open latch hook through the braid:
6. Link
Then link the loop of your faux loc to the latch hook.
7. Pull
Now pull the latch hook while it’s closed, back through your braid. (See video 0:55 -1:03)
8. Open loop again
Then, open the loop of the dread again, pull the end through and tighten.
It’s super easy, right? Now you’ll just keep repeating this step over and over again to add as many faux locs as you desire.
Just be really patient with this tool so that you don’t end up pulling your hair.
Pro tip: Play some music while you’re styling your crochet faux locs. It took me about an hour and a half to finish, so the music definitely made the process fun!
Also, I made sure to save 15 of the faux locs for the front of my hair just to make sure that I had enough coverage up there. The back doesn’t matter as much since it’s not seen like the front.
This is how it looks once I used all the crochet faux locs:
Now you can add some extra personality if you’d like.
Adornment
1. Deal with baby hairs
If you have them, you can slick down your baby hairs in the front with some gel.
2. Decorate with clips
Now I randomly scattered these rose gold dreadlock clips all over.
Here’s a better view of the length. I used the 24 inch pack.
Here are 5 easy ways to style your faux locs. See the video for more details 3:00 - 4:32.
