In this tutorial, I'll be sharing my DIY lip balm recipe with coconut oil, beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, and other ingredients that are so good for your lips. Keeping your lips moisturized and soft is vital and should be part of anyone’s skincare routine.

While there are so many lip balms out there on the market, most of them are actually not what they’re cut out to be. So, take matters into your own hands and make your own lip balm with my full-proof DIY lip balm recipe.

In this quick guide, you'll see how to make your own lip balm easily! So, get your materials out, and let’s get started! You’re one step closer to luscious, sultry lips!

Tools and materials:

  • Beeswax
  • Coconut oil
  • Shea butter
  • Cocoa butter
  • Sweet almond oil
  • Avocado oil
  • Vitamin E oil
  • Fragrance of your choice
  • Mica powder

I’ll be making two lip balms with two different fragrances: vanilla and strawberry. The strawberry one will be with mica powder to add a pink color.

If you don't have all these ingredients on hand, you can choose any oils or kinds of butter that you have - just ensure that they are soft to work with.

How to make your own lip balm

Essentially, the ultimate homemade lip balm recipe is a simple equation to follow. Soft butter + hard butter + wax + liquid oil. That’s all there is to it to make a fabulous DIY lip balm recipe!

1. Add the ingredients into a pot

So, in a small pot, add in the following;

  • 20 grams beeswax (0.70 ounces)
  • 12 grams coconut oil (0.42 ounces)
  • 13 grams shea butter (0.45 ounces)
  • 15 grams cocoa butter (0.52 ounces)
  • 15 grams avocado oil (0.52 ounces)
  • 15 grams sweet almond oil (0.52 ounces)
  • 9 grams vitamin E oil (0.31 ounces)
  • 1 gram fragrance - only add this after everything has melted (0.03 ounces)
Heating the ingredients in a pot

2. Heat

Now, place the pot over a double boiler.

After around 5 minutes, all the ingredients will have melted.

Stirring in the fragrance

3. Add fragrance

Now, add your fragrance oil. Since I'm doing two recipes, I'm dividing the melted contents in half. In one half, I'm adding the vanilla fragrance oil and the other half, the strawberry flavor and mica powder.

Mix quickly

Once your ingredients are off the heat, quickly mix them because they harden almost immediately.
