In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to do six Dutch braid hairstyles for long hair. These looks are the perfect everyday look for the fall season. Let’s get into it.
Tools and materials:
- Hair ties
- Bobby pins
- Hair clips
Double pony Dutch braid
1. Separate your hair into two sections
Split your hair in half to separate it into a top and a bottom section. Put the bottom section into a ponytail.
2. Braid
Braid the top section down until it reaches the bottom section.
Tie it off.
3. Combine the two sections
Create a hole above the hair tie and pull the bottom section through the hole.
4. Braid
Braid the bottom section down.
5. Add volume
Tug on the braid to add volume.
Here’s the finished hairstyle!
Double Dutch braid
1. Section
Section your hair into a top and bottom half. Then, split each half into half again to create four sections.
Put the bottom sections into ponytails.
2. Braid the top half
Braid both of the top sections with a simple three-strand braid. Tie them both off.
3. Combine the two sections
Create a hole above the hair tie, and pull the bottom section into the hole.
4. Braid
Braid the bottom section down.
5. Add volume
Tug on the braid to add volume.

Half braid ponytail
1. Section
Separate the front-facing pieces of your hair from the back.
Separate the top and bottom halves of your hair.
2. Braid
Braid the top section.
3. Combine the two sections
Pull the bottom ponytail through the top section’s braid.
4. Add volume
Tug on the braid to add volume.
5. Pull back the front pieces
Pull the two front pieces back and tie them together.
6. Combine the front pieces with the bottom ponytail
Create a hole in each front piece and pull the bottom ponytail through them.

Dutch braid bun
1. Section
Section your hair into two. Put the bottom section into a ponytail.
2. Twist
Loosely twist the bottom section.
3. Do a bun
Wrap the bottom section into a bun.
4. Braid
Braid the top section until it reaches the bun. Tie it off.
5. Pull the bun through the braid
Create a hole above the hair tie and pull the bun through.
6. Add volume
Tug at the braid to add volume.
7. Wrap off the rest
Wrap the rest of the hair around the bun and pin it.

Half-up half-down Dutch bun
1. Braid two front pieces
Separate the two front pieces and braid them about 3 inches down. Tie off.
2. Create two buns
Take a similarly sized section where the braid ends and pull it into a hole above the hair tie.
Pull the section only partially through to make a small bun.
3. Combine the buns
Pull one bun through the other to create a combined, messy bun. Pin it down.
4. Add volume
