Styling a Summer Dress in to Autumn and Beyond

I love Summer. And summer dresses. And I’m not ready to pack them all up and let them go just yet, so here’s my take on how you can style up a summer dress to see it through Autumn and in to Winter.

The Amelia dress I have picked was a smash hit for many bloggers this season, and I was so excited to bag one in the Boden Sale. These are just a few ways I will be upstyling it, throughout the coming colder season.

In my first look, I have added a sweater vest over the top (see my previous post about this fabulous Autumn staple, which adds instant warmth and depth to any outfit)

I’m wearing some knee length brown boots, which I have owned for years, from Next and have accessorised with a chocolate brown Mulberry Amberley bag. I toyed with adding a belt but preferred a more flowing silhouette.

This is another variation on the sweater vest. This H&M one has added shoulder pads which give it more shape. There are so many fabulous vests out there, and they look great with dresses like this with statement sleeves.

If in doubt, add a blazer!

I’m tweeding it up here in this Zara tweed check blazer for more of a country girl look. This would be perfect for a crisp Autumn walk. A fedora hat would add an extra dimension. I’m wearing the same long Next boots here, but a trainer (or a welly!) would be perfect too.

Autumn wear doesn’t necessarily mean Autumnal colours all the time. I’m adding a layer of warmth with this sweatshirt fabric Boden milkshake toned bomber jacket (A favourite staple of mine) and I’ve picked out the yellow touches from the jacket and dress with my bag (also Boden).

Pink Converse complete my look, but any trainer would be a lovely way to compliment this casual look.

In my second blazer look, I have again opted for a pretty pink, to pick out the colours in the print. This blazer dress is from Zara, who are always my go-to for affordable tailoring.

I’ve paired my look with pink Dr Marten’s boots. These are from the kids range, as I have little feet, and I’m not sorry!

Denim jackets are always a good idea! I’ve pulled up the collar on this Zara one and buttoned up so it almost looks like I’m wearing a skirt rather than a dress.

I’m wearing my Converse again but a nice boot or a pump would look lovely too. Tights optional!

In my final look I’m glamming it up with the faux-fur and channelling my inner diva.

The luxurious texture of this Warehouse coat adds an extra dimension to the dress and means I could wear it on chilly winter days. Just add hat & scarf! I have had this one for years and it’s perfect for adding a bit of drama to any outfit.

There are so many ways to extend your summer wardrobe. There are loads more; think long sleeved top under, t-shirt over, sweatshirt chic belted over the top.

I hope this gave you some food for thought. I’d love to hear how you’re keeping the summer alive through your wardrobe!
