6 Fun Loafer Outfit Ideas That Are Truly Out of the Box

This tutorial is all about loafer outfit ideas. Loafers have a special place in my shoe collection, and in this lookbook, I’m going to share with you six of my favorite ways to style them.

As you will see, I’m going to be styling regular black loafers as well as some more colorful ones, so whatever your style, hopefully, you’ll be able to pick up some inspiration.

Do you wear socks with loafers?

1. Preppy chic

For the first outfit, I created a bit of a preppy schoolgirl/schoolboy vibe with all of the elements in the outfit.

The black shorts, above-the-ankle socks, loafers, and hairband mirror a school uniform. Of course, the blazer over the shoulders finishes off the aesthetic.

I think that loafers naturally have a bit of a school uniform vibe to them. Styling them in this way is a very easy choice that you can make look chic.

2. Playful vibes

Here, I swapped the black loafers for a pair that has white at the top and then green going around the sides. These shoes are very playful, and to match their vibe, I paired them with a fun printed sweater.

The overall look here is mostly black and white, but the touches of color from the loafers and the sweater add some interest to the outfit.

In addition, I’m wearing faux-leather pants on my legs, which is a very contemporary and on-trend material.

3. Blue and green

This is another fun look. I love thinking outside the box when it comes to putting outfits together.

I’m wearing some asymmetric blue jeans that are a darker shade on one side and a lighter shade on the other.

I have my white and green loafers on my feet, and then I opted for a bright green blouse that I’m wearing as a jacket. I went for a baguette bag in the exact same tone to accessorize.

4. Urban edge

Here is another very out-of-the-box look that is a bit edgy and alternative. I’m wearing a dark green suit. The pants I rolled up at the bottom, and the blazer is a little oversized.

I matched it with a cropped long-sleeve top that has a comic print design on it.

Then, I added in some loud and proud accessories - a green handbag and a red wide-brim hat. My black loafers finish off the look.

5. Feminine twist

I opted for a midi skirt in a black faux leather for a more feminine look. I wanted this look to be really relaxed, so on top, I’m wearing a cropped vest in a neutral tone with an oversized denim jacket.

The loafers bring a slight hint of color to this look, but overall it is very laid-back and understated.

Styling chunky loafers with a statement coat

6. Statement coat

I wanted to end this lookbook on a high, so I went for a bright orange statement trench-style coat that really is the centerpiece of the outfit.

Because the coat is so bold, I kept the rest of the outfit neutral with a beige cropped top, some black pants with cut flared detail at the bottom, and my simple black loafers.

Some square sunnies give it some attitude and an oversized bag and jewelry are the final additions to the look.

Loafer outfit ideas

There we have six different ways that you can style loafers. I don’t believe that you have to stick to certain fashion rules when putting your outfits together.

My advice is to go for pieces that are full of fun and character and will add some excitement to your look.

Have fun styling and let me know in the comments below whether you prefer plain, classic loafers or more colorful ones.

I love the green loafers with the green baguette bag! I wish I could wear loafers but I have narrow heels and every pair I've ever worn slips off my heels when I walk. I have tried every heel-snuggling insert ever made. They either still slip and rub blisters on my heels or they do a weird pinch on their edges. It probably doesn't help that my feet grow to extra wide at the balls of my feet. I have resigned myself to lace-ups or sandals. Gym shoes, tennis shoes, or runners are my lot in life. But I love yours!
