How to DIY a Cute Denim Sling Bag
Have you got 10 minutes for a great upcycle?
Start with an old pair of jeans and finish with this DIY jean bag that is durable and will be perfect for daily use.
Use your new denim sling jean bag as a pencil case, makeup bag, travel bag, or fill it with your glasses, cell phone and keys for daily use!
No sewing is required, unless you love to sew.
Tools and materials:
- Old jeans
- Scissors
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Ruler
- Webbing for strap
1. Cut your jeans
Cut a 27-centimeter (10.6-inch) length from the straight part of one jeans leg, cutting through both layers of denim.
2. Make your denim bag
Turn your denim tube inside out.
Hot-glue one open end of the tube shut, applying the glue to the right side of the denim.
3. Make a top flap
Turn your bag right side out, and fold over the open end 4 centimeters (1.57 inches).
Use hot glue, applied to the right side of the denim, to secure the flap in place.
4. Make a front pocket
Cut a 14x16-centimeter (5.5x6.3-inch) square of denim from your old jeans.
Pull threads from both long sides of your square to make a small fringe.
Fold both short edges of your square under 1.5 centimeters (0.6 inches).
Glue the flaps in place on the wrong side of the denim.
Glue the pocket to the bag on both sides and the bottom of the pocket.
5. Make decorative squares
Cut three 7.5x7.5-centimeter (3-inch) squares and pull the threads as you did in step 4 to make fringe on all four sides of each square.
Glue the squares to the back of your bag on an angle, in a diagonal line, overlapping the squares.
6. Make a shoulder strap
Cut a length of webbing or rope to your desired strap length, and glue the ends to the inside sides of your denim bag.
Here’s the front (or back – your choice) of your new denim bag.
And here’s the other side.
