In this DIY, I’m going to show you a super cute way to customize a bag that involves using shaving cream.

I know, it sounds odd, right? Are you intrigued? Keep reading to find out what to do.

Tools and materials:

  • Shaving cream
  • Elmer’s glue
  • Acrylic paint
  • Bowl
  • Bag
  • Knife
Combining materials

1. Combine materials

Start by combining your shaving cream, Elmer’s glue, and acrylic paint in a bowl.

I went for yellow paint, but you can choose whichever color you like. I also make a brown mixture as well.

Creating floral design

2. Create floral design on bag

Now take your bag (I’ve opted for a woven one), and use a knife or other spreading tool to put your paint mixture on the bag and create the design.

To make flowers, spread the paint in five different directions to create the petals. Continue to make flowers all over the bag.

Adding center

3. Paint the center of the flowers

Now take the brown paint and add it to the center of the flowers.

I’ve also dotted brown circles around the flowers for some added decoration.

Spreading paint

Spread out the brown paint in the center to make it look more realistic and flower-like.

Here is the finished bag! As you can see, I also created yellow dots around the top of it.

The beauty of combining shaving cream into the mixture is that it makes it three-dimensional and adds some texture to the glue and the paint. I am so happy with this flowery bag!

It's a GREAT way to jazz up burlap bags and sandals.

But, what happens if it gets wet?

Apparently she does not take the time to answer pertinent questions, so, what I did was look this process up. The following link and a few other sites used food dyes but I do think Acrylic paint can be used also. The site also calls it puffy or fluffy paint it dries rubbery and it looks to be waterproof. The recipe with amounts are on the site. You can also look up "how to make puffy or fluffy paint". I used how to make Elmers glue and shaving cream paint. Good Luck. https://parentingchaos.com/shaving-cream-puffy-paint/

This DIY is just that I made a very lucrative living on people doing it themselves a.k.a. DIY you are correct there is what’s called puffy paint, and I have use that to Mark on plastic vitamin containers rather than throwing them away or recycling. I put hair clips and or what have you and the puffy paint holds up rather well.

I don’t know that I would put anything on a straw bag and be in the sun or near water because well the straw bags gonna fall apart probably before the Elmers glue but shaving cream and water, no matter what you mix it with and acrylic paint are all water soluble!!!

not a know it ALL…? But know a lot!

before anyone else gets this notion and takes their Grandmas favorite beach tote may want to research the idea more.
