There are many tutorials out there on Halloween costumes you can make, but not so many on Halloween accessories.

Here, I’m going to show you a super cute pumpkin purse inspired by Pillsbury cookies.

It’s also made from placemats, so it’s a very unconventional technique. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Placemats
  • Paint
  • E600 glue
  • Clips
  • Paintbrush
Gluing placemat

1. Glue placemat

Glue E600 about ⅔ of the way around the periphery of a woven placemat.

Sticking second placemat on

2. Stick second placemat on

Stick another placemat on top of it.

Adding clips

3. Add clips

Clip the two pieces together so that they can stay in place as they dry.

Painting design

4. Paint pumpkin

Once the glue has dried, paint a pumpkin with some orange paint.

First, paint the outline and then fill it in.

Adding detail

5. Add detail

Add some green paint around the eyes and at the top.

Here is the finished pumpkin bag made from painted placemats.

This is such a cute accessory for Halloween, and it was really enjoyable to paint. It’s also usable - you can put all manner of things inside and not have to worry about them falling out.

Give this a go for yourself!
