It’s so frustrating to get make-up, particularly foundation and eyeliner, on your clothes. And it’s even worse when your clothes are light-colored. But don’t despair – follow this tutorial to learn a trick for how to get makeup stains out of clothes!
In this makeup stain-removal tutorial, I demonstrate how to remove makeup stains from different colors of fabric in three simple steps. It worked perfectly for my light beige jeans, pink jeans, and traditional blue jeans, even after they'd already been washed once.
Tools and materials:
- Dish soap
- Water
- Washing machine
1. Apply dish soap to the makeup stain
Pour a bit of dish soap onto the makeup stain on your clothes (my favorite for this use is Fairy, but use what you have), and rub it all over the stain. To lather up the dish detergent a bit, add in a little water and keep rubbing.
Keep the fabric where the stain is nice and taut as you’re rubbing in the soap.
2. Use your fingernails
While you are rubbing the soap and water into your makeup stain, use your fingernail to gently work the soap into the fabric and between the fibers. That’s what really going to lift the makeup stain out of your clothes.
3. Wash the clothes
This method of removing makeup stains from your clothes will be effective even if the makeup-stained clothing has already gone through the wash.
Once you’ve gone through this method of removing makeup stains, you’ll need to put your clothes back in the washing machine again.

I’ve been doing laundry with dawn dish soap and vinegar since the pandemic when I couldn’t get my favorite detergent. Everything is clean and soft!
Been doing this with straight Dawn for years. Just a small amount, undiluted and scrubbed in as noted works with everything I’ve tried, including grease and oil from tractor. It also helps, but is not necessary, to allow to soak in for a few minutes before washing.
