No, no… this is literally how to paint pictures on your jeans. I saw an amazing TikTok, where the creator painted a Mickey Mouse on the back pocket of a pair of jeans. I decided to give it a try and to take all of you along for the ride. First, I painted one version so there is a photo tutorial and then I painted another and video taped the process.

Here is a screenshot shot of the TikTok. This artist is really good.

I used a bottle for the head and quarters for the ears.

I ended up switching to a washable marker. This dark purple ended up being a poor choice. My advice is to pick a lighter color.

Ok, here is how my outline ended up.

Next, I mixed textile medium and acrylic paint together to form a smooth base coat. Textile medium turns any acrylic paint into fabric paint.

I think this was one of my favorite parts. It was easy. I let it dry for a couple of hours before getting out my paint pens.

Posca paint pens are my favorite paint pens. They work on many different items. I have had these for years. They are one of the few supplies that my Gen Z daughter loves, too. If I can’t find them, they are usually in her room.

I began outlining with the medium point black.

After I outlined the Mickey, I began coloring it in. I also made a huge ink blob but the fabulous people on Hometalk gave me some ideas to blend it in.

After black, I moved on to red.

Then yellow …

At this point, I wanted to heat set the paint but there was a lot of purple marker that wouldn’t wash out.

I tried and tried and got an old tooth brush and scrubbed but it wasn’t coming out.

So into the washer it went.

It came through the wash pretty well. This is a pair of size one jeans that my daughter gave me to donate so no one will be modeling them. I don’t even know what I’m going to do with them.

I think it is a fun look. Fun fact, I worked at Disney on their college program almost 30 years ago. I drove a parking tram. “You parked your car In The Goofy section of our parking lot, row …”

These would make awesome gifts for Disney adults.

This project was largely a success due to these paint pens.

You must have painted two different pairs of jeans because the Mickey image is located on a different area of the pocket.

Yes, the paragraph before the video, says this is a pair of jeans my daughter gave me to donate. Then I wanted a video of the process so I used a pair of my jeans for the video and the last couple of pictures. I find it next to impossible to video and take pictures of a project at the same time. Most of the time I find it easier to just do it twice. A picture version and then a video version.

That makes perfect sense Stacy. Thank you so much for explaining it. I plan on trying it for on a pair of my granddaughter’s jeans or on the back of her white jean jacket. Thanks for sharing such a cute project. 🤗
