I absolutely adore a good fashion transformation! I decided to get creative and I came up with 10 totally awesome denim DIY ideas. I am so obsessed with these refashioned pairs of jeans! If you want to learn how I did these 10 incredible upcycles, this tutorial is definitely for you! You can make so many amazing designs out of an old pair of jeans! Follow my easy, step-by-step guide and take a look at how I transformed old jeans into dramatic, fun, and edgy pairs of jeans for every occasion.
Tools and materials:
- Jeans
- Fabric markers
- Bleach
- Scissors
- Rope
- Seam ripper
- Needle and thread
- Hot glue
- Paper
To get started on this first DIY you will need a pair of jeans and some fabric markers. I suggest starting with the biggest prints or patterns you want to draw onto the jeans.
You can then start adding colors in and around the drawings to add a little extra something to your pair of jeans. This DIY is such fun because you can add as much or as little detail as you want.
I love this DIY. It was totally creative and I just adore the little pops of color on the denim.
For this next look, lay down some plastic to keep the table from getting stained. Fold your pair of jeans in half and then using a water and bleach mix, bleach-dye the front side of the jeans.
Next, make sure to rinse your pair of jeans. Throw your jeans into the washing machine and leave them to dry.
I just love this two-toned bleach-dyed pair of jeans!
For the next, amazing DIY, start by cutting out the front pockets of your jeans. Make sure to leave the waistband intact.
I love this gorgeous, flirty transformation! These jeans are so much fun!
For this next crazy-fun DIY, choose any color rope that you want. Wrap it around your hand so that you can cut similarly sized pieces.
Grab your needle and thread and sew these pieces of rope all along the waistline.
If you don’t have time, you can always use hot glue to attach your rope pieces. I decided to add the threads to the waistline and leg of one side but get creative with your design!
This pair of jeans is absolutely awesome! I love the pop of color and texture!
A new trend is the open-leg pair of jeans. All you have to do is measure where you want the open section to start. From that point, use a seam ripper to open up the pair of jeans.
Go ahead and make 2 or 3 stitches so that jeans won’t rip further.
I totally love this edgy pair of jeans!
For this next denim DIY, cut off the bottoms from a pair of jeans. I chose to use a lighter shade for these bottom pieces. Cut two pieces off of each leg.
Next, sew two pieces of denim together to create 2 longer threads.
Take your second pair of jeans and open up the side seams from the top. You will have to fold in the waistband and sew it down. Stitch all the way down to the bottom of the slits, making sure that the fold won’t open.
Use your scissors to cut four holes on each side of the slit.
Take your denim threads and start threading through the holes in the jeans.
These lace-up jeans are adorable!
For this denim DIY, place some paper inside your jeans to avoid the marker going through. Use your marker to draw some totally awesome flames on the front of your jeans.
I decided to color in my flames with the black marker, but feel free to use different colors for your DIY.
These black flames add so much drama to this pair of jeans!
To get started with this amazing pair, Mix bleach and water and splatter it over the front and back of a pair of jeans.
Rinse the jeans, put them in the wash, and wait for them to dry.
Totally obsessed with this bleach splattered pair of jeans!
For this next amazing DIY pair of jeans, cut out the upper back of the jeans leaving the waistband intact. Make sure you are using a high waisted pair for this project.
I love that I can show a bit more skin with these gorgeous jeans.
This next denim DIY will need a wide-legged pair of jeans. Start by cutting off the bottoms of this pair.
Use an A4 piece of paper and fold it 4 times from the bottom to get the perfect length. Mark that point at the back of the jeans.
At this point sew the bottom pieces you cut off onto the pair of jeans.
Turn the pair over and cut down the middle to the point where you sewed at the back.
This pair is total dynamite! Which DIY denim design is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
