Easy Origami Heart Valentine’s Day Badge

This origami heart fold isn’t new, my American readers are most likely very familiar with it, it is new to me however and I love it! Original videos on this simple craft show how to fold dollar bills into a cute heart, that won’t work anymore with our waterproof bank notes but how about old book pages!

As soon as I saw this cute fold I wanted to try them, they take seconds to make and are addictive to make, I have used mine to make a cute Valentine’s Day badge but you could also use them to make bookmarks, card toppers, gift tags and more. For Valentine’s day you could use books or song lyrics that are special to you.

What You Will Need

  • An Old Book
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Glue Gun
  • Plain Card
  • Brooch Fastening
  • Sentiment

How to Make

Take a page out of an old book you no longer want, imagine coming to read it and it is missing a page! Cut your page to 15.5 x 6.5cm.

To make you heart, fold the paper in half on the short edge, open it up them fold the outer edges into the middle. Flip it over and fold the top corners back on themselves into the centrefold. Open up the bottom pages and fold the top piece to meet the middle of the heart, flatten down both edges. Fold back the two small triangles to create the indent of the heart.

Use some glue, I used a hot glue gun, to stick down the flaps of paper on the back of the heart. To give the badge a bit of strength I cut some card-stock to place as a backer. Trace around the heart and cut that out to get the shape, then cut 5mm off all the sides to ensure a good fit. Stick it down with glue. Add a brooch pin to the back using hot glue and leave to set.

You can decorate your badge as you like, I kept mine simple, just punching a Kiss Me quote out on my We R Memory Keepers Label It. If you haven’t seen this tool before, it is fantastic at creating vintage style, embossed sticky labels.

It is as simple as that to make this cute Valentine’s Day badge, I think this badge is really cute, don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying it is super durable or will last for ages. Being made out of paper it is likely to only be worn a few times, but it is a fab idea for one day events like Valentine’s day and you could also use it to make some rather unique birthday or hen party badges.
