DIY Christmas gift 1 – velvet headband
1. Make the pattern
Make a template for your headband on a piece of paper using the measurements in the image above.
Trace the template onto two more pieces of paper. Then cut out the templates and tape the three pieces together, one on top of the other.
Now pin your template to your velvet fabric.
Cut out the headband shape from your fabric.
Tip: if you use a rotary cutter and a straight edge, you will be able to make beautifully clean straight edges!
2. Place the pearl beads
Since your headband will be knotted at the back of your head, you don’t want to place the pearls too close to the ends. Fold your headband in half lengthwise and use a safety pin to mark 12 inches in from each point on the headband.
Only place your beads in the space on the headband between those two 12-inch markers.
Lay your pearl beads on the headband in the pattern you want, and then use sewing pins to mark those placement spots.
Sew the beads in place using a needle and thread.
Come up through the fabric from the bottom, thread the bead onto the needle and pull it down to the fabric so the bead is laying with the holes on the sides, not the top and bottom of the bead. Then, go back down through the fabric on the side of the bead.
Repeat that stitch one more time to ensure the bead is securely sewn onto the fabric. Knot the thread on the back of the headband and repeat with all of your pearls.
3. Sew the headband
With the right side facing in, sew one open diagonal end, the long edge, and half-way across the other diagonal end.
If you are using a stretchy fabric, you will need to use appropriate thread and a zigzag stitch. If your fabric is not stretchy, a regular straight stitch will do the trick.
Turn your headband right side out through the opening in the half-sewn diagonal end and then hand-stitch the opening closed.
You can use your imagination with colors, patterns, and beads to make this beautiful DIY velvet headband and give them as gifts to your friends and family.
DIY Christmas gift 2 – heart-shaped earrings
1. Measure and cut the wire
Measure and cut two pieces of wire 8 inches long. Find the middle point on each piece of wire and mark it with a sharpie pen.
2. Make a loop
Use your pliers to make a loop at the end of the wire.
3. Insert an earring hook
Before closing your loop, place an earring hook on the end. Then fully close the loop.
4. Thread the beads
Add your beads to the mid-point mark on your wire.
5. Shape the earrings into hearts
Now bend the wire at the midpoint mark to begin shaping the heart. Then add the rest of your beads on the other half of the earring.
With the other end of the wire, make a loop at the end and insert the earring hook to connect both ends of the earring.
You may have distorted the heart shape a bit, finishing it off, but you can just bend it back into shape.
DIY Christmas gift 3 – pumpkin spice sugar scrub
1. Mix the ingredients
Put three tablespoons of sugar in a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and mix it with the sugar thoroughly.
Add 2 drops of cinnamon essential oil and 1 tablespoon of pumpkin puree and mix. If you want a stronger spice aroma, then you can add another drop of the cinnamon essential oil.
2. Transfer the scrub to a container
Transfer the scrub to a small glass jar and refrigerate between uses.
