It is time for a hair experiment! I came across a heatless overnight blowout video and I wanted to try it for myself.

What you do is put a bunch of flexi rods inside two socks and then curl your hair with it. Because it's such a thick chunk of sock it should create a lovely, beautiful blowout.

Now the biggest problem here is that the woman who made the video I saw has long and thick hair. Mine is fine, short, and thin, so it might come out completely different.

It might not do what I'm hoping it will do at all, but let’s give it a try and see what happens.

Tools and materials:

  • Flexi rods
  • Socks
  • Texturizing spray
  • Setting lotion
  • Hair clip
  • Brush
Applying texturizing spray

1. Apply texturizing spray

Start by giving your hair a little bit more texture with the texturizing spray.

This will make it more grippy and less slippery so that it will stay in the curlers better.

Inserting flexi rods in socks

2. Insert flexi rods in socks

While your hair is drying down, place the flexi rods inside two socks.

I’m not sure how many flexi rods to use, but I think it just depends on the effect that you want.

Splitting hair

3. Split hair

Split your hair in half so that you have a top section and a bottom section.

Clip away the bottom section and then brush the top section forward.

Spray your hair with setting lotion, as this will help it to dry in the desired shape.

Wrapping each section

4. Wrap each section

I’m not completely sure whether to put an elastic in my hair or which direction to roll in, but I think it makes sense to roll forward.

Wrap the ends of your hair around the sock and tuck them underneath, and then roll the whole thing up.

Give the sock a twist so that it’s secure, and apply some more setting lotion.

Wrapping each section

Now do the same for the back section.

Make sure it's nice and wet because that's how heatless curling works - you want the hair to dry in a certain shape.

Leaving hair to sit

5. Leave in

Leave it in for a couple of hours.

Unrolling socks

6. Unroll the socks

When it’s time to take your hair down, first unroll the lower half and then the top half.

I love how much volume this has created. The hair will drop down a little bit and not be as voluminous as when you just undid it, but this is very impressive.

If you remember how flat and lifeless my hair was looking at the beginning, this result is absolutely incredible.

My hair is super bouncy, it's very, very voluminous, and it looks absolutely fabulous. I love how it gives me this swoopy curtain bang style and best of all there is no heat damage.

I love that I was able to try this hairstyle with stuff I already just had lying around and I didn’t have to purchase anything for it.

The only potential downside is that I’m not sure if I’d be able to sleep with the sock curlers in as there was one at the back of my head.

With longer hair, you can roll both of the curlers so that they sit at the top of your head, but with shorter hair this won’t work.
