Today, I will show you how to give yourself a voluminous blowout at home.

This is geared more toward long hair, but you can definitely get some tips and tricks for short hair.

It’s super easy to do and delivers a gorgeous result. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Heat protectant
  • Mousse
  • Hair dryer
  • Round brush
  • Hair tie
Spraying heat protectant

1. Spray heat protectant

Start off by spraying heat protectant into wet hair.

Adding mousse

2. Add mousse

Then take some mousse and scrunch it into your hair.

I recommend mousse for a good blowout because it gives your hair that extra volume.

3. Blow dry hair

Do a messy blow dry on your hair to remove some moisture.

Step 4 - Section off hair

Section off the top part of your hair and tie it up. Then split your bottom section of hair in two and pull it over your shoulders.

5. Blow dry hair with brush

Starting at your roots, take your round brush, hold the blow dryer near the brush, and blow dry all the way down, rounding out the ends.

When you first kind of get started, you really just want to get the moisture out of the hair, you're not trying to shape the hair too much yet.

Once your hair is dry, go in with your round brush and smooth the hair out. It's a little bit more repetitive and tedious going in with a brush, but it's what makes all of the difference.

Repeat the process until the bottom layer is done.

6. Blow dry next section

Let the top section of hair down, divide it in two with another top and bottom section, and tie the top section up.

Now blow dry the middle section in the same way that you did the bottom section.

Go nice and slow, so the heat can get into the hair and start to dry it.

Blow drying hair

A key tip to blow drying your hair is making sure your blow dryer is always pointing down at the hair so it smooths the cuticle.

You never want to blow dry with a blow dryer blowing up against your hair because that's going to rough up the cuticle and make your hair frizzy instead of smooth.

7. Blow dry top section

Now let the very top section down.

The top section is where you really want to shape and style out any layers you have in your hair. This is what's going to give you that really finished, polished look.

When you get to the ends, you want to really round them out to give your hair a smooth, rounded-out finish so that the ends aren't straight or flapping about.

8. Blow dry bottoms

Blow dry the ends of your hair again to ensure they're nice and smooth and shaped as you want them to be.

Also, make sure you get the crown of your hair really good because a lot of times if that's not kind of smoothed out, you can get some wrinkles and curls going on there.

So that's the finished product. My hair is nice and smooth, and it's got some volume to it.
