How to Put String Back in Pants: 4 Easy Methods

The string in pants serves an important role in the design of the garment. The relaxed approach allows you to adjust the tightness of the pants depending on your comfort level.
The string also adds aesthetics, with a bright white string standing out against black pants, or a pink string color blocking with a pink pant. Needless to say, the string matters.
We’ve all been there: The string in our pants falls out, and we either spend the rest of the day pulling up our pants, or set them aside entirely until we decide whether or not the pants need the string at all.
Other times, the components go straight to the tailor for someone else to deal with. However, how to put string back in pants is actually a simple, DIY process you can accomplish at home.
How to put string back in pants with a safety pin
Have a safety pin on hand? You’re in luck! This is one of the easiest ways for putting string back in pants.
1. Attach the safety pin to one side of the string
There’s likely a knot on each end. You can push the string through the knot, or just below it. Close the safety pin once the pin has been threaded through the string.
2. Place the pin through one of the eyelets
Now that the pin is secured to one side of the string, slide the pin through one of the eyelets.
Use one hand to continue to pull the pin to the opposite side, and the other hand to scrunch the waistband material in the opposite direction.
This will help move the pin and attached string alone. Continue scrunching until the pin has reached the other side of the waistband, close to the second eyelet.
3. Pull the pin out through the second eyelet
Once you reach the other end of the waistband, pull the pin through the second eyelet.
Meanwhile, make sure the string hasn’t pulled inside of the first eyelet. Remove the pin.
To make sure the string doesn’t get lost again, make the knots on either of the strings bigger than before.
How to put string back in pants with a pen
Another item you likely have at your disposal is a pen with a pocket clip. This can be used as a tool for replacing a string back within the waistband of your pants.
1. Slide the string through the clip
Make sure the cap is on the pen. Then, pull one end of the string underneath the pen’s pocket clip, just enough so the end is nicely secured against the pen.
2. Guide the pen through the eyelet
Use one hand to continue to pull the pen to the opposite side, and the other hand to scrunch the waistband material in the opposite direction. This will help move the pen and attached string alone.
3. Pull the pen out through the second eyelet
Once you reach the other end of the waistband, pull the pen through the second eyelet.
Meanwhile, make sure the string hasn’t pulled inside of the first eyelet. Remove the string from beneath the clip of the pen.
To make sure the string doesn’t get lost again, make the knots on either of the strings bigger than before.

1. Guide one end of the string through the easy threader
Pull a small section of the string through the threader to secure the string.
2. Push the threader through the eyelet
Grab the other end of the threader that doesn’t have the string on it.

Now to keep the cord from coming out again , pin or stitch in the center of the back of the pants catching the cord, to hold it in place.
I always attach and sew the center of the string to the back of the pants when I first get them. Never pulled a string out of the casing!
