Crop Top

Make the pattern

Let’s start with the crop top. Draw the pattern by following the measurements above.

How to sew wide leg pants

Create a tunnel for the elastic

Fold your top fabric by 1 cm (0.4 inches) and again by 2 cm (0.8 inches) and pin the entire top edge. This will be a tunnel for the elastic.

Repeat the same process on the bottom edge. Then, sew the two adjacent folds with a straight stitch. Make sure you’re sewing as close to the fold as possible.

How to make wide leg pants

Take a 2 cm (0.8 inch) wide elastic and cut it to the same length as your upper bust. Then, cut an additional piece the same length as your lower bust.

Using a safety pin, loop the elastic through each respective tunnel.

Then, sew the edges of the elastic to the fabric.

Finish off the crop top

Fold the crop top, right sides together, sew the side edges with a straight stitch, and then finish it with a zigzag stitch.

Make the straps

Cut out two equal pieces from the same fabric and fold the fabric right sides together.

Sew along the edge with a straight stitch.

Turn the straps inside out and insert an elastic cut to size (Mine was 42 cm - 16.5 inches). To see how I complete and add the straps, skip to 3:11 in my video.

Make the DIY wide leg pants pattern

Start by putting your measurements on your fabric piece. I am super tall and I wanted to make my pants long, so my measurements may be way different from yours. You can see a guide in the image above.

Sew wide leg pants

Sew the side crotch curves with a straight stitch and then finish it off with a zigzag stitch in order to prevent the fabric from fraying. Remember to stitch with the right sides of the fabric facing each other.

Now, turn your fabric around, and voila, your wide leg pants are starting to take shape!

Align the front and back seams of the crotch area and pin them. Then, align the rest of the pants.

Sew a straight stitch and then finish off with a zigzag stitch.

Make the waistband

Fold the whole circumference of the waist by 1 cm (0.4 inches) and then fold again by 8 cm (3.1 inches) and pin all around.

Use a 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide elastic as a guide to measuring the tunnel. The tunnel should be a little wider than that, by about ½ a centimeter (0.2 inches). So, all in all, you need to measure 2.5 cm (1 inch) from the top.

Continue measuring 2.5 cm (1 inch) across the rest of the waistband until you have three straight lines. Then, go ahead and sew three straight stitches across every line, leaving a small opening on every line.

Using a safety pin, feed the elastic through each tunnel. Make sure your elastic is cut according to your waist measurement with an additional 4 cm (1.6 inches).

Make sure to sew the ends of each elastic and close the gap afterward.

TIP-

When closing the gap, stretch the fabric as you sew.

Hem the wide leg pants

Hem the bottom edges of the pants with a double fold. Sew with a straight stitch.

How sexy is this outfit? This set is also versatile, meaning you can pair them with other clothing items, too. The crop top would go great with some killer jeans, and the DIY wide leg pants look great with a colorful top. Whatever you choose, you know have an amazing ensemble to add to your collection.
