Ever wanted to make DIY glitter shoes? Well, I have got the best hack for you! If you have a pair of old shoes that are peeling or that you simply don’t wear anymore, then grab them, and let’s transform them into a dazzling pair of DIY glitter heels.

In this quick, tried & tested tutorial, I’ll show you how to make your own glitter heels using a few items. Let’s get started.

Tools and materials:

  • Foam brush
  • Mod Podge
  • Disposable plate
  • Tape
  • Glitter
  • Sandpaper
  • Shoes
Sanding down the shoes to prep them

1. Prep your shoes

First things first, you need to prep your shoes, especially if they are worn out and peeling. Go ahead and sand them so that you even out the cracks and crevices.

Cleaning shoes with a damp cloth

Clean it with a damp cloth and leave it out to dry.

Applying tape to the soles of the shoes

Next, tape the soles of your shoes. This will ensure that glitter doesn't stick there.

Applying Mod Podge to the shoes

2. Apply Mod Podge

With your foam brush, spread some Mod Podge over your shoes. This will act as a sealant and smooth out the surface.

Mixing different colored glitter together

3. Use glitter

Now for the super cool part! Take your glitter ( use any color or combination you want) and pour it into a container, as shown. If you’re using more than one color, then be sure to mix the colors.

Adding the glitter to the Mod Podge

Next, add your mixture to a bit of Mod Podge.

Then mix everything thoroughly until you have a thick, glittery paste.

Spreading glitter glue mixture on the shoe

Spread the mixture all over your shoe. Make sure you spread it evenly to avoid any bumps. Also, don’t forget the heels! Once you’re done, leave it to dry.

Making DIY glitter high heels

Depending on the level of sparkle you want, you can repeat the process should the first layer not be glittery enough for you. Repeat the process about three to four times until you get to your desired look.

Tip: Let the layer dry before you apply another layer.

Covering the glitter glue so it doesn't dry

Also, in between every application, you should cover your paste to not dry.

Applying Mod Podge to seal the glitter

4. Seal the glitter

Once your DIY glitter high heels are ready, add another layer of Mod Podge to seal the deal! This will prevent the glitter from falling out and ensure long-lasting wear.

I have a pair of shoes that are regular beige, but they seem to be old & peeling. This is encouraging me to turn them into something different. If I fail they are headed toward the trash anyway. Thanks!

I’m definitely going to try this. Thank you for sharing this idea. A previous comment mentioned paper use. Do you also have a video to show that technic to refurbish shoes?
