Tools and materials:
- Brush
- Comb
- Smoothing serum
- Volumizing root lifter
- Argan oil
- Curling iron (or straight iron)
- Root lifter
- Hairspray
- Pick
1. Wash and prep
As you can see, I have fairly fine hair, but it does have some body to it. So, before styling, I like to prep my hair to give it that extra shiny, silky, and smooth boost.
So, start by washing your hair. Then, add the following products;
- Smoothing serum - smoothes your hair and gives a silky finish.
- Volumizing root lifter - lift your hair and spray this around the front of your face and the crown of your head.
- Argan oil - add a tiny bit for moisture (especially good if you have dry hair).
2. Section your hair
Brush your hair with a wide-tooth comb, then start sectioning off your hair, starting from the bottom and working your way up.
3. Curl sections of hair
Take a section of hair, and press your curling iron about ½ an inch from your roots.
Then, turn it towards the back while simultaneously gliding the curling iron downward.
Can you see that beautiful curl? I am amazed how a flat iron can also double-up as a curling iron! Once you get the hang of it, it’s really easy.
Now, move on to the next section of hair and repeat the process.
Tip: The slower you glide it through, the tighter the curl will be.
When you get to the other side, ensure that you twist the iron to the other side. Meaning, your wrist should always turn towards the back, and so should your curls.
Once you’re done with the bottom section, go ahead and do the rest of the sections, repeating the same process as shown above.
I suggest making the curls on the top section a little tighter as this is more visible and will really give that extra “oomph.”
Start your curl a little further down when you get to the front parts of your hair.
Here are all the lovely curls!
4. Separate the curls
Now that your hair is curled and cooled down a little, it’s time to separate them. The best way is to use a wide-tooth pick. Slowly run it through your hair so that it separates the curls evenly.
5. Volumize
Using the pick, lift a ⅓ of your hair and backcomb it for added volume.
Spray hairspray all along the roots so the newly added volume holds. Also, spray some root lifter to enhance the volume. Allow your hair a few minutes to dry before moving to the next step.
6. Style your curls
Take your pick and start styling your curls. You can use your fingers to style and place the curls exactly how you want them to be.
Once you’re done, spray a dash of hairspray all over your hair to hold those beautiful curls in place!

The magical thing about this hairstyle is that it comes out differently every time! There’s also plenty of room to play around with your curls and style them the way you want, whether it be tighter or looser.
