The Perfect Skincare Routine for Older Skin - 3 Simple Steps

3 Materials
15 Minutes

In this tutorial, I’m going to show you my early morning skincare routine for my mature skin. This is what I do every morning after I’ve got up to prepare my skin, both for the makeup and to look its best for the rest of the day.

I'm using products from Look Fabulous Forever, but you can use whatever works best for your skin.

Step 1 - Cleanse

I love the fact that a cleanser wakes my skin up in the morning. I haven’t got an awful lot of dirt on my face, but it feels a little bit grotty, and I definitely feel that my skin needs to be woken up and made to feel better.

So I’m going to put a little bit onto my hand and then just smooth it into my face.

My cleanser has many natural ingredients and Vitamin E, which we know is good for older skin. I’m going to wash the cleanser off quickly and easily with a nice clean flannel. Now my skin feels soft, nourished, and really refreshed.

Step 2 - Hydration serum

One of the key things about older skin is that it loses hydration very fast. Dehydrated skin looks less luminous and less smooth. It also stops your makeup from going on nicely, so everything you can do to add moisture and keep moisture in and on the skin, the better.

I’m going to apply some hydration serum with very high hyaluronic acid levels, which is a proven moisture keeper in the skin. This ingredient can absorb more than a thousand times its weight in moisture, and it’s a naturally occurring substance in our body, joints, and ligaments.

I’m going to put a few drops of the serum onto the back of my hand and, using that, smooth it over my skin lightly.

Step 3 - Day cream

You don’t have to wait between applying the serum and the day cream; the two work together really well, holding and attracting moisture into the skin.

I put a fairly generous amount of this onto my face, and I’m smoothing it into my skin, making sure that it is thoroughly combined into it.

That simple skincare routine didn’t take long, but I know now that my skin will be optimally nourished for the rest of the day. I will wait until I think that my skin has properly absorbed the moisture until I start putting my makeup on.

Then, when I am ready to apply the makeup, I know that it will glide on smoothly and look its best for the rest of the day.
