Tools and materials:
- Denim skirt
- Tape measure
- Chalk
- Eyelets
- Eyelet punching pliers
- Seam ripper
For this DIY, I’m using a black denim mini skirt, but you can use any style of denim skirt you like.
1. Mark the skirt
Lay your skirt on the floor and use a tape measure and chalk to help you mark where you want the eyelets to go.
For my design, I want my eyelets to be equidistant from one another, so I am making sure to leave the same amount of space between each one.
I’m going to add eyelets to the bottom part of my skirt, but you can add them where you like; you could add them around the top of the skirt or down the sides of the skirt along the seam.
2. Add the eyelets
Use a seam ripper or other sharp tool to poke holes in the fabric where you made marks with your chalk. Then take an eyelet, poke the protruding end into the hole, and punch it with your pliers.
3. Repeat
Repeat this process for all the chalk marks on your skirt. When you’ve finished adding the eyelets, I recommend taking a damp cloth and wiping off any remaining chalk marks.
How to add eyelets to fabric
Check out the finished look! In just three simple steps, I was able to transform a plain denim skirt by adding some trendy eyelet details.
There is a lot of scope to be creative with this DIY and add the eyelets in whatever design you want. Once you know how to apply eyelets, you can, of course, put them on other pieces of clothing as well.
Have fun, and I hope you enjoy the finished result!
