Tools and materials:
- Stretchy fabric
- Pins
- Sewing machine
- Existing maxi skirt
- Scissors
Make the pattern
Fold your fabric in half, right sides showing. Use an existing maxi skirt as a pattern and place it on the fold of the fabric.
Be sure to leave a 9-inch wide fabric piece in front, as shown.
Mark your desired length and cut. Remember, the length can be altered, so whatever length you'd like is really up to you.
Trim any excess fabric.
Cut a diagonal line from the corner edge of the skirt. This should be 4 inches in by 15 inches high.
Place pins and sew
Around the front end of the skirt, place pins approximately 3 inches out.
TIP -
Make sure the pins are close together.
Then, mark 13 inches from the bottom of the skirt and do not pin this area.
Using a zigzag stitch, stitch along the pins, using the pins as a guide. Do it carefully and take your time.
Hem the raw edges
Almost done! Hem the bottom of the skirt and, if needed, hem the waistline. I didn't need to, as the fabric did not have a raw edge.
Whoop! That's it! You have a snazzy maxi DIY skirt to add to your closet. Isn't this just beautiful? The fabric itself is stunning and mesmerizing, and it fits insanely well. Pair this DIY skirt with some heels, and you're good to go. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

I made a comment on another blurb in this post about older people being sewists, but I think this style is for you young'uns. I'd leave a little more room for seam allowances for ease of fit, but I know if I were young, I'd probably wear something "snug" like this.
I love this look and the velvet fabric! ☺️
