3 Easy Sleek Low Bun Hairstyles
Today, I’m going to show you how to make a sleek low bun or chignon in three ways.
These are great hairstyles for more formal occasions, or just when you feel like wearing a smoother, more serious style.
Make sure to have lots of bobby pins on hand!
Tools and materials:
- Detangling brush
- Large hair tie
- Small hair tie
- Hair donut
- Bobby pins
1. Donut bun
You can buy mesh donuts made for this style, or do as I have here and use a rolled up sock!
Gather your hair into a low ponytail, brushing it through well so it’s lying straight and smooth.
Secure with a large hair tie.
Slide the donut over your ponytail to hide the hair tie and hold it in place against your head with a couple of bobby pins.
Divide the ponytail in two.
Make a rope braid by twisting the two pieces in the same direction, then twisting them around each other in the opposite direction.
Secure the braid with a small hair tie.
Pull each section of the braid outwards to make it as big and full as you can.
Wrap the braid around and over the donut so that it’s completely covered.
Push bobby pins into the bun to hold it firmly against your head.
Tuck the ends underneath the donut and pin them in place.
And there’s the first bun all finished.
2. Looped chignon
For the second style, make the ponytail a little higher, so it’s just below the center of your head. Wrap a large hair tie around it.
Loop the hair down and up once and hold it above the ponytail.
Push bobby pins into the lower section of the loop.
Wrap the ends down over the bobby pins and secure them underneath the chignon.
It makes a super elegant chignon that’s really easy to do.
3. Wrapped bun
Brush your hair into a low ponytail again.
Wrap the hair tie around it three times.
Pull the last round of the elastic partially down over the hair to create a small loop.
Wrap the ends of your hair loosely up and around the hair tie and secure them with bobby pins.
Fan out the sides of the loop as much as you can to form a half circle shape.
Insert bobby pins into the sides and lower part of the bun, to hold it against your head.
This is one of my favorite styles.
Sleek low bun
As well as formal occasions, these low sleek buns and chignons are perfect for dance classes.
They’re a simple way to keep your hair off the back of your neck in warm weather too. They’re all really easy to do and look so pretty.
Which one is your favorite? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
