Elevated Ponytail: 5 Easy Ponytail Hacks
In this video, I am going to share some tips and tricks you can use to get an elevated ponytail.
These are ponytail hacks that everyone should know, and they will give you fuller ponytails, even if you have thin hair.
Tools and materials:
- Boar-bristle brush
- Hair comb
- Hair elastics
- Bobby pins
- Hair extensions
1. High ponytail hack
One of the hardest things to do when you are trying to get a nice, sleek high ponytail, is getting the ponytail tight enough.
Start by just pulling your hair up to where you want your ponytail to start.
Now, use a boar-bristle hairbrush to start smoothing the top and sides of your hair.
Then, go all around your head and smooth the hair at the back, below your ponytail.
The goal is to have all of your hair lying flat, in the direction of your ponytail.
Now, tilt your head back, and use one hand to continue smoothing the hair at the back of your head while pulling the ponytail tight with your other hand.
That really helps tighten up your ponytail from below.
You can also use your boar-bristle brush again, for some extra smoothing and tightening.
If anything has come loose on top, just brush it back in.
Now you can secure your ponytail with a hair elastic.
If, like most people, you have some fly-away hair at the back of your neck, spray on some glossy hairspray.
Then, use a small hairbrush to brush those hairs up towards your ponytail.
You may still find a little bump or two on top of your head.
Take a pencil or the end of a comb, put it in your hair right in front of the bump, and pull it back to smooth over the bump.
2. A better way to tie a ponytail
When you are using a hair elastic in the traditional way, there is a certain point when you have to let go of your grip on your ponytail.
To avoid loosening your grip, start with a hair elastic that doesn’t have the little metal bit on it, and slide a bobby pin over each side of the hair elastic.
Open one bobby just a tiny bit and slip it in right next to where your hand is holding on to your ponytail.
Use the other bobby pin as a handle to wrap the hair elastic around your ponytail as many times as it will go, wrapping it between your hand and your head.
Then stick the second bobby pin into your hair.
It will hold your ponytail tight, and at no point did you have to loosen your grip.
3. Volumize your ponytail
Brush back a circle of hair from the top of your head.
Tie it with a hair elastic at the position where you want your ponytail to be.
Take one strip of hair extensions, the same length as your own hair.
Flip your ponytail to the front of your head, and clip the extension to the underside of your ponytail, with the extension itself facing the same direction as your flipped ponytail.
Now take the rest of your natural hair and brush it into a ponytail, incorporating your first, small ponytail and your extension.
Tie your full ponytail with another hair elastic.
And now you have a natural-looking ponytail with extra volume.
4. Add even more volume
This time, use several extensions that are longer than your own hair and clip them all the way around your small ponytail.
Remember to always clip extensions in the same direction as your natural hair is going, and evenly distribute the extensions to both the front and back of your ponytail.
You can layer strips of extensions on top of each other for tons of volume.
Then brush all of your natural hair into the ponytail.
Brush through the ponytail itself to make sure your natural hair and extensions are fully blended.
And now you have a much fuller and longer ponytail!
5. Hide your hair elastic
Take a small piece of hair out of your ponytail and wrap it around your hair elastic.
Secure it under your ponytail with a bobby pin.
