How to Use Hair Sticks Step-by-step: 4 Cute Hairstyle Ideas
Hey guys! Today, I would like to introduce you to the magical world of hair sticks, if you haven't been introduced already.
Using sticks to pull up your hair is something that has been done for centuries upon centuries, and I personally really like using hair sticks.
Tools and materials:
- Hair sticks
Hair sticks are a super quick, easy, hair-friendly, and comfortable method to put your hair up.
Hairstyles with hair sticks tend to distribute the weight of your hair better across your head if you have very long or heavy hair, and they never leave a crease in your hair which hair elastics do.
It is also a little harder if you are wearing a hair stick to pull your hair too tight so that you get a headache from it. There are loads of benefits.
I will share with you the basics of how to use a hair stick and then three different hairstyles using hair sticks and no hair elastics.
Style 1: Basic technique
The basic technique is pretty much making a bun with your hair and then using the hair stick to weave the bun to your head.
Let me demonstrate with a basic twisted bun.
1. Make a bun
Twist your hair and make a simple cinnamon bun.
2. Insert a hair stick
Grab one of your hair sticks, and poke it into the side of your bun.
Then scrape across your scalp underneath the bun, and bring the stick back out through the other side of the bun.
It is super secure now, and my hair won’t go anywhere. I can wear this all day long, and it is only using one stick.
For extra security, you can take a second stick and put that in across the other side.
This is absolutely fail-proof and super simple.
I have pretty thin hair, but if you have more hair and your bun is much larger, you could consider weaving the sticks back and forth between the bun and your scalp, which will make it more secure.
Style 2: Nautilus bun
1. Wrap your hair
For this hairstyle, pull your hair into a ponytail at the back of your head. Then wrap the hair around your hand.
2. Pull it around
Start wrapping the tail of your hair around the top of the loop. Then just tuck the ends underneath.
3. Push center through
Slide the loop over the little wrapped part that you just made and poke the center bit through.
4. Insert hair sticks
For some people, this stays as it is.
For me, it doesn't, I need hair sticks with this, so I'm going to slide one through one side.
For added security, I will slide one through the other way as well.
And there you go - a nice little Nautilus bun held up by two hair sticks.
Style 3: French twist
1. Place stick under hair
Gather all of your hair into a low ponytail. Then take your hair stick and guide it underneath.
2. Twist the stick
Then twist the stick around, bringing your hair around as you go.
3. Bring it up
Then twist again and go up with your hair stick towards the crown of your hair. Keep twisting until it feels nice and tight.
4. Tuck end under
If you have a little piece of hair sticking out, tuck it underneath the roll.
5. Push hair stick down
Then turn the hair stick around and scrape it across your scalp, stick it in, and wiggle it down.
There is your easy French twist that is really nice and secure.
Style 4: French braid bun
1. Braid your hair
For the next hairstyle, start by making a French braid.
When you’ve reached the nape of your neck, continue the braid all the way down to the ends of your hair.
2. Insert hair stick
As we’re not using a hair elastic, hold the end for now. Take your hair stick and stick it through the bottom part of the braid of your head.
3. Wrap the braid
Take the braid and wrap it around the hair stick. When you reach the end, tuck it underneath.
4. Add second stick
Then take your second hair stick and stick that in diagonally.
And there is a really cute, elastic-free braided bun.
