3 Ways to Wear Espadrilles for Spring

Do you feel it? The weather is warming. The grass is getting greener. It’s springtime!

I love the start of spring because you feel good things are to come and start to get ready for fun times outside and lighter, brighter clothing. However, I always have a hard time with footwear. It’s getting a little too warm for boots but still too chilly for open-toe sandals. But I found the perfect shoes for spring – the espadrille.

Espadrilles are rope-soled shoes with a canvas fabric upper. They often come in a wedge but can be found in flats or platform soles. The shoes get their name from the esparto rope used to make the wrapped or braided sole section, and gives the shoe its earthy, casual character.

I found closed-toe, neutral-color espadrilles are pretty much the most versatile shoe for spring. The closed toe gives you more warmth than a sandal, and the wedge heel lends itself to casual and dressy looks. I like the kind with wrap ties at the ankle, but you can also find them in a pump, buckle strap or slip-on style.

Here are three ways to wear Espadrilles for spring:

With Shorts or Capri Pants

Pants start to go shorter in spring. I usually go from ankle-length capri, culottes or gaucho pants to all-out shorts. Espadrilles work with any of these short pants and shorts style. They can take a capri pant straight from daytime to dinner in the evening and give you a more polished, intentionally-styled look. They’re also fun to jazz up the look of shorts for a fashionable look for backyard BBQs or shopping days.

With Jeans

Espadrilles will add a little bit of style to your casual jeans look and you can top them with just about anything from a t-shirt to a button down to a nice blouse. It’s always still a little chilly in the spring, so you might want to reach for a cozy flannel. Your espadrilles will be there to elevate the look.

With Dresses or Skirts

You can’t beat espadrilles for pairing with spring dresses and skirts. Their casual dressiness goes so well with floral prints and a neutral color with any pattern you throw at it, and it will help elongate your legs because the nude color extends down to your toes, making your leg one long line. They are perfect for wearing out at night to summer parties or hanging on the patio at your favorite nightclub.

Now that you know 3 ways to wear espadrilles for spring, will you try this versatile shoe?
