Fashion Inspired by the Winter Olympics
Red, White and Blue Winter Styles
The 2022 Winter Olympics are about to kick off; and I don’t know about you but I’m a huge fan of all things Olympics including the fashion! Everything about the Olympics appeals to me not just the fashion but also the human stories about the athletes along with the inspiration, dedication and determination that embodies so many of them! Attending an opening ceremony some day is on my bucket list although preferably during the summer olympics! I truly look forward to seeing the uniforms the athletes wear for opening and closing ceremonies along with their competition uniforms and this year’s outfits don’t disappoint. Ralph Lauren is back at it again, designing Team USA’s ceremonial outfits for the 14th year since it first debuted styles at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
“The Opening Ceremony looks—which include an anorak, mid-layer jacket, pants, gloves and boots, all of which include recycled polyester fiber made with post-consumer plastic bottles—were revealed on Jan. 20 and described as a “modern and fresh take on sportswear.”

“Team USA’s uniform for the Closing Ceremony will feature red, white, and blue buffalo plaid puffer jackets, intarsia turtleneck sweaters with the American flag, and blue fleece leggings for women, and white fleece pants for men. This year’s unisex uniforms also continue the recent tradition of committing to a level of sustainability, which usually means using recycled and/or responsibly sourced materials.” Each uniform also includes gloves and boots made of recycled polyester and as always, each facet of the uniform is manufactured in the United States.
Which is your favorite…the opening ceremony or closing ceremony outfit? I love the closing ceremony puffer coats, USA leggings and flag sweaters!
Fans can purchase a Team USA outfit from RalphLauren.com. Of course, it’ll cost you a pretty penny if you’re looking to buy the exact outfit (try nearly $2,000 for the puffer jacket alone), but it would be pretty awesome to say you have the same uniform as Team USA!
Whether you plan to watch the Winter Olympics at home, at your favorite establishment or at a watch party, you can assemble a cute red, white and blue look to support Team USA and it doesn’t have to break the bank! This fair isle sweater is a perfect nod to the team USA sweater of the athletes. I’ve paired it with my navy joggers and Cecelia of New York Trekker boots for a look I’d wear to work as well as a party. This sweater would also be cute paired with red or white pants or jeans. I topped off the look with my red, white and blue plaid shacket. My necklace and earrings are vintage Trifari. (To see a previous blog post on Trifari Jewelry, click HERE.)
The same joggers as above; however, I added my navy blue and white sequined top because you know I love my sparkles! Blazers always feel very olympiad to me! Many years the USA teams enter wearing a blazer during opening ceremonies. The look is completed with my white paten leather boots. You could easily add pops of red by switching out the white boots with either red boots or shoes and red accessories. My pop of red comes with my red pea coat, which has been in my closet forever! Pea coats are classic and never go out of style! The joggers could easily be replaced by white jeans or pants as pictured above! Let’s not forget the red lipstick! (To see my previous blog post on the top five red lipsticks, click HERE.). Lastly, I added my vintage flag Trifari pin to my coat lapel! This completes look
For a more casual red, white and blue Winter Olympics look I opted for my shacket, light wash high rise jeans, a USA graphic t-shirt and my Cecelia New York Trekkor boots. I added my navy blue socks with red and white stars, which doesn’t show up but an easy way to add another fun element to your look. My Go USA mittens were purchased many Winter Olympics ago but you can easily find a more current version. Lastly, I added my white puffer coat.

This Team USA hoodie is so cute and would look great under my red, white and blue flannel shacket or under a blazer for a fun casual look!
This red, white and blue heart dress has been in my closet for a while but I think it’s perfect not only for the Winter Olympics but also for Valentine’s Day! Since it’s so cold and snowy, I typically layer it over navy blue leggings and add my red wedge booties! It’s kind of a twofer – Olympics and Valentine’s Day! I thought about adding my white cardigan for extra warmth!
