Make and cut the pattern

You'll need two pairs of pants to make the patterns. First, you'll need a pair of wide-legged pants for the bottom and a pair of high-waisted pants for the top part. Match the crotch seams of both pants.

Trace the high waisted sweatpants from the top down to the crotch and the wide-legged sweatpants from the crotch down to the leg area. Cut when you're done with the pattern. Cut the pattern when you’re satisfied with it.

You should have the following pieces as shown on the image.

Attach the pockets

Along the outer side of the front and back pieces, mark 15 cm (6 inches) down from the top and make a mark.

Then, fix the edges of the pockets, so it's curved and pointing down towards the crotch area.

With the right sides facing, sew the four pockets on either side of the pants. You should be stitching two layers.

Also, topstitch the top fold, as shown.

Now, layer the pants on top of each other accordingly ( right sides facing) and sew the curved side of the crotch area for both the front and back pieces.

Assemble the high-waisted sweatpants

Now, layer both the front and back pieces on top of each other, right sides facing. Sew from the crotch down and around the side seams and pockets, too.

Make the waistband

This is optional; you can add two tiny eyelets to the center-front of the waistband; this definitely gives off a more professional look.

Now, mark the center of each waistband piece and sew the waistband at the sides. Make sure the waistband is the whole circumference of your waist.

Fold the waistband in half, lengthwise, pin the edges at the bottom, and sew the top part ( this will be the tunnel for your elastic). The pins will help the fabric stay in place. Mark 1 cm (0.4 inches) from the top, all the way around, and stitch along the lines. Leave a gap to feed through the elastic.

After stitching the tunnel, feed the elastic through with the help of a safety pin. Remember to sew the gap shut when you're done and stitch the elastic together.

Attach the waistband to the sweatpants

Now, find the center marks on the waistband and line these marks with the center seams of the women's high-waisted sweatpants. The same goes for the side seams of the pants and waistband. Everything should match up evenly.

Once everything is pinned in place, go ahead and sew the layers. Stretch the waistband while sewing, too.

Add elastic to the ankles and hem

Fold the bottoms up around 1 cm (0.4 inches), and sew all around. Leave a gap and feed through the elastic, the same way you did for the waistband elastic.

These are honestly the best high-waisted sweatpants ever! They are comfy and so snug. I love how these turned out, and It was rather simple to make. They remind me of the Nike high waisted sweatpants, too. Go ahead and make your own pair and see for yourself how awesome they are.
