DIY Ruffle Halter Top From a Scarf (Easy Sewing)

DIY Ruffle Halter Top From a Scarf (Easy Sewing)

The best thing about an infinity scarf is that there are already multiple ways to wear it, but why not transform it into something new entirely? Here's how I upcycled a dollar store infinity scarf into a cute ruffled halter top with some simple sewing! Follow me on Instagram for more ideas, outfit inspo, behind the scenes and more!

Step 1: Cut Cups

Fold the scarf so that there are 4 layers of fabric. Use your pencil to draw a rounded triangular shape for the cups, and then cut the pieces out. Separate them into two cup pieces, each with two layers of fabric.

Clip around the edges.

Step 2: Cut the Band

Cut a strip from folded side to folded side.

Fold that strip in half and clip the folded ends together. The length is completely up to you!

Step 3: Create the Straps

Cut two long and narrow strips from the excess fabric.

Step 4: Sew Pieces

Sew the edge of the band together, then flip it to the right side so the seam is hidden.

Sew around the edges of the bra cups, leaving small openings in one corner of each. Use the small opening to flip the cup inside out so the seams don't show, and then stitch the opening closed.

To create the cup shape, fold each cup vertically in half and line up the edges. Use your pencil to draw a curved line at the folded center and sew along the line.

Sew and attach the bottom of the cups to the top of the band, then attach the straps to the backside of the top of the cups.

Step 5: Add Ruffles

Cut a strip of excess fabric that's about 3-4 inches wide, depending on how long you want your ruffles to be. Tuck the raw edge under and clip it onto the top of the first cup. Move down another inch or two, create another fold and clip it in place. Repeat this all the way down, across and up to the top of the second cup.

Sew the ruffles onto the top along the clipped edges.

All done!

That's it! You now have the perfect summer halter top that was once a basic infinity scarf. How dope is that?! Thanks so much for checking out this tutorial!
