How to Make a Melt & Pour Turmeric & Honey Soap Recipe
In today’s tutorial, I’ll be making a turmeric and honey soap recipe! I can’t wait to show you how to make these, so let’s get to it!
It’s a fun and easy process, and the best part is, that it’s probably more cost-effective to make this turmeric and honey soap at home than to buy it at your local retail store.
Tools and materials:
- Melt & pour base
- Organic turmeric
- Honey
- Soap mold
- Pot
- Bowl
- Utensils
- Rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle
- Gloves
- Pouring jug
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Jojoba oil
- Glycerin
- Sweet almond oil
- Measuring utensils
1. Cut your soap base
First up, cut your melt and pour soap base into cubes. This will make the melting process much faster. I’m using a pound of mango butter soap base, but you can choose any base.
Tip: I also went for a hypoallergenic soap. There are many options you can choose from!
2. Melt the soap
Now, go ahead and place your bowl onto a pot of boiling water. This is called the double boiler method and works really well when melting everything. Just make sure that no water gets inside.
Tip: You could also use a microwave to melt the soap.
Keep stirring the contents to make sure the soap doesn’t burn and that all the big chunks melt.
3. Add ingredients
Once your soap is melted, add:
- 1 teaspoon honey (use 1 teaspoon of honey for every pound of soap) - use your immersion blender when adding the honey
- ½ teaspoon organic turmeric - add a little alcohol to the turmeric, so it doesn’t get chunky.
- 1 teaspoon sweet almond oil
- 2 teaspoons jojoba oil
- 0.5 ml glycerin
Tip: Don’t take your time with this step; you don’t want the soap to harden before adding these ingredients.
Mix for 2-3 minutes. I also used my immersion blender to make sure everything is incorporated.
4. Pour the turmeric and honey soap
To avoid messes, I like to use my pouring cup. It’s better than doing it directly from the bowl.
Give the soap a good stir before pouring them into the molds. If you find that your soap is clumping and hardening, go ahead and stick it in the microwave or put it over the pot again.
Spray your molds down with alcohol. This will make sure the mold is disinfected.
Pour your turmeric and honey soap into each mold. Make sure to fill your molds to the very top.
Spray the top with rubbing alcohol to eliminate any bubbles. Then, let the soap sit for about 3-4 hours to harden.
5. Unmold the soap
Once the soap hardens, go ahead and unmold them.
6. Package
Since I sell these soaps, I went ahead and packaged each turmeric and honey soap bar. If you are not selling these soaps, simply put them aside in a cool, dry place.
Turmeric and honey soap benefits
Turmeric is really great for hyperpigmentation. It’s also a powerful antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties. Overall, it is great for improving your skin and acts as a natural skin brightener.
Lather test
Just for fun, I will show you how well this soap lathers! The lather does have a tint owing to the turmeric, but it will not stain. I use it on my face twice daily.
