How to Make a Turmeric Honey Soap Bar Using a Melt & Pour Base
Today, we’ll be making a turmeric honey soap bar using a melt and pour base! I’ll be using a mango butter soap base to make this turmeric with honey soap. You can, of course, use any base you like.
There are so many turmeric and honey soap benefits, and this is a great product to use on your face and body. Let’s make some soap!
Tools and materials:
- 1 pound mango butter soap base (makes 4 bars)
- 1 teaspoon organic turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 4 teaspoon carrier oil of your choice
- ½ to 1 teaspoon of safe-skin fragrance or essential oil (optional)
- Mixing bowl
- Soap pouring cup
- Alcohol spray
- Gloves
- Sanitizer
- Soap mold
- Large cutting knife
Turmeric and honey soap benefits
- Turmeric helps with hyperpigmentation.
- Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant and also has anti-inflammatory properties.
- Turmeric helps brighten your skin and improves overall elasticity.
1. Melt and pour prep
Cut 1 pound of your melt and pour soap into smaller pieces. This method works better when it comes to melting the product. I love this soap base as it's gluten-free and has not been tested on animals.
Tip: If you have sensitive skin, make sure the soap base you use is hypoallergenic.
2. Melt the base
Transfer the base pieces to a large mixing bowl. Now, go ahead and place your bowl in a pot of water over the stove. Once the water boils, it will melt the soap. This is called a double boiler method.
Tip: Make sure no water gets inside the mixing bowl.
3. Add honey
Occasionally stir the melt and pour soap as it melts. Then, add one teaspoon of honey to the melted soap.
The ratio is 1 teaspoon for 1 pound. It’s best to add it while the soap is still hot, as the honey will melt and dissolve better.
4. Add more ingredients
Now add 1 teaspoon of turmeric to the mix.
Here, I’m adding a teaspoon of sweet almond oil to the turmeric powder.
Then, add around 2 teaspoons of jojoba oil.
Add 0.5ml of glycerin, too. The melt and pour base does have this, but I like adding a little more as it works great on the body.
Mix the turmeric, jojoba oil, glycerin, and almond oil and pour it into the base quickly before the soap solidifies.
Here’s an overhead view of what the turmeric and honey melt and pour soap should look like. If you want to add fragrance to your soap, now is the time.
5. Pour the soap
Now it’s time to pour this natural turmeric and honey soap into your mold. I prefer using this unique soap pouring cup as it avoids mess.
Tip: If your soap gets thick at any point, make sure to keep stirring the soap. You can also stick it in the microwave for a few seconds.
Before pouring the mixture, make sure to spray your molds down with alcohol.
Now, pour the mixture into each mold and fill your molds to the very top.
Spray more alcohol on top to help eliminate the bubbles.
6. Freeze the soaps
Now, place the mold in the freezer for around 3-4 hours. Then go ahead and unmold them.
Since I run a soap business, I start packaging my soaps, but you can place them in a cool, dry place.
