Tutorial for Shadow Rooting Your Extensions

If you want to get your extensions to blend in with your own hair better, then follow this tutorial.

I will show you a method for shadow rooting your extensions, to make them look completely natural.

Tools and materials:

Hair extensions
Semi-permanent hair dye
Water-mister
Regular shampoo
Conditioner
Toning shampoo
Large bowl and sink
Comb
Blow dryer

Choosing hair extensions

1. Choose your extensions

I have extensions that match the ends of my hair quite well, but not the roots. That’s where my extensions need some help.

2. Apply hair dye

Start with a semi-permanent dye in a shade that matches your natural roots. I’m using an ash brown hair dye here.

Apply the hair dye along the top of your extensions.

Use a comb to blend the hair dye into the extensions.

3. Mist the extensions

Mist the extensions with water right below the root line.

4. Blend the hair dye again

Use the same comb as before to blend the misted hair dye down.

Washing extensions

5. Wait, rinse and wash

Let the extensions sit for about 20 minutes, then rinse them out.

Then, give your extensions a wash with regular shampoo.

6. Wash out the reds

Make a bath with water and toning shampoo, and wash your extensions again, this time to cancel out any reds.

Follow with conditioner, and rinse.

6. Blow dry

Now, just blow dry your extensions and you are done!
