Make a No-Sew Wrap Top In Under 30 Minutes
So here’s a fun DIY project- altering your boyfriend’s or partner’s clothes! I think there isn’t one person in the crowd who has never worn their partner’s clothes! Because, why not? That’s what we do! Men’s clothes in particular have really cool styles and if you alter it a little, you can make a really exquisite fashion item to add to your own closet! So, I will show you how to make a no-sew wrap top from an oversized men’s ( my boyfriend’s, to be exact) vest. Follow my easy no-sew wrap top tutorial!
Tools and materials:
- Oversized vest
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Marker or colored pencil
Measure
Lay your vest out, with the insides showing, and start measuring. Start from the bottom side waist and measure 6 inches up. Do this on both sides.
Next, draw a straight line across; making sure it’s straight as this is where you will cut across the vest.
Cut the back side
Using a sharp pair of scissors, cut the back panel and across the line you drew. Make sure you only cut the back part and that you cut out a straight line.
Take out the buttons
Now that the back is shorter than the front, you can go ahead and remove the buttons. Do this manually, and carefully so that you don’t rip them out. A seam ripper is also a good tool for this step but you can use scissors.
Try it on and assemble
Here’s how the wrap top looks like. What you do now is cross over the front panels, wrap them around your waist and tie a knot at the back.
I love how it turned out, it’s so easy, versatile, and the best part- inexpensive. I paired this with a high-waisted pair of burgundy pants. I also opted for a long sleeve top, but feel free to leave it out. This really is a good upcycle! All you need is a men’s vest so that you can transform it into a cute DIY wrap top. Does the back portion unravel?
If I were wearing this nifty idea, I would tuck the ends of the wraps in the waistband of my slacks. I think it would make a flatter silhouette.
