How to Make a Super Cute, DIY Ruffle Crop Top in 20 Minutes

Tools and materials:

• Cotton linen fabric
• Scissors
• Measuring tape
• Fabric marker/pencil
• Sewing machine
• Needle and thread
• Elastic
• Safety pin
• Sewing pins

1. Measure your fabric

For the tube top, you’ll need two pieces. Each piece should be 48.5 x 12.5 inches. For the straps, you’ll need four pieces. Each piece should be 26 x 1 inch. For the elastics, you’ll need two pieces. Each piece should be 25.5 x .25 inches depending on if you want your elastic to be shorter or tighter as the elastics will be for the chest/upper bust and waist areas. The measurements already account for seam allowances.

2. Hem

Hem the upper and lower parts of the fabric by folding the edge over twice and pinning it.

Then, sew along the pinned edges.

3. Measure and mark

Measure and mark one inch from the top on both the top and bottom of the fabric. This is where the elastic will be sewn.

4. Align and sew

Align the elastic where you made the marks, and pin them down on one end. Then, sew along the pinned edge while holding and stretching the elastic so it reaches the other side of the fabric.

5. Fold and sew the top

Fold the top over while it’s inside out, and pin it together. Sew along the pins, and then turn right side out. 

6. Fold and sew the straps

Now, take your straps. You should have four straps already cut to measure from the first step. Fold each strap horizontally and then pin it. Sew. Cut off any excess fabric.

7. Turn right side out

Use a safety pin to turn each strap right side out.

8. Fold and sew the ends

Fold the end of each strap twice, and then hand sew it together. 

9. Mark the straps

Pin the center of the tube top, then turn it inside out. Measure and mark where the straps will be attached.

10. Pin the straps to the top and sew

Fold the other end of the straps, and then pin them to where you marked on both the front and the back of the top.

Sew.

11. Turn right side out

Turn the top right side out and you’re done.
