How to Wear a Ruffle Denim Shirt 3 Ways
Spring is in the air, a perfect time to poke around your wardrobe and see if you can wear old garments in new and interesting ways.
I’ve found this style of shirt , with the ruffles at the bottom, is super flattering (especially if you have a bit of a tummy.) I have a similar style top in a neoprene fabric which I love, but is very warm and only suitable for winter. Now I can rock the ruffles in spring too.

Today I’ve been inspired to style my newly refashioned ruffle bottomed denim shirt. Here’s what it looked like before – not very flattering.
You can find the full refashion instructions over on My Poppet MAKES – Denim Shirt Refashion
Of course it looks great with my fave skinny jeans and is a comfortable smart look for running errands and school pick up.
Look 1 – Pop of Colour
It doesn’t take much to add a little personality, just add a chunky feature necklace, a bright scarf and a pair of colourful brogues, and you are ready for a brunch date.
I love the look of chunky necklaces over a collared shirt, it’s amazing how just changing your accessories can totally transform the look of a simple shirt.
Look 2 – Vintage Bolero
I’ve been dying to find something that I can wear this vintage bolero over. I picked it up at the Salvos a few years ago and it’s been languishing in my wardrobe unworn. It’s vintage JAG from the late 70s and the jumbo ric rac is just perfect. I only wear these shorts on holidays at the beach, but I think this outfit combo looks quite cute. A pair of more tailored shorts would be perfect. I’ll keep my eye out at the thrifts for a pair.
Look 3 – Evening Bling
Add a bit of sparkle and you can totally dress up this shirt for a party. I like how the belt gives the shirt a peplum effect. I was tempted to add a gold necklace, but I think the belt is enough.
So there you go, three totally different looks with just one shirt. Day to night, school pick up to dinner date, this $8 shirt was a great investment.
I hope I’ve inspired you to re-look at some old items in your wardrobe, consider wearing preloved or vintage fashion more, and have a bit of fun with what you wear.
Till the next installment
