7 Must- Have Fashion Trends For 2024: Clothing

Trends come and go rather quickly, so keep that in mind and incorporate only the trends that fit your lifestyle, budget, and personal style. Remember it’s okay to pass on any trend that you don’t like. Today we will be focusing on fashion trends that are specifically clothing. We will tackle accessory fashion trends next time.

Fashion Trends: Bottoms

Cargo Pants

The cargo pants fashion trends started in 2023 and will continue into 2024. These loose fitting trousers or jeans have large pockets on the outside of the legs. Originally designed as a work pant, the pockets were meant to be functional. Now, they are more ornamental and give the utility look of the style.

As these are a loose fitting style, you will want to be careful when putting an outfit together and be sure to balance out the full/loose pant with a more fitted top. Otherwise, they can look frumpy in a hurry! Also the size and placement of the utility pockets can be unflattering on certain body types, so try some different styles and see what looks best on you.

I am currently experimenting with this trend. I have two pair of cargo pants from Aerie. One is a light denim and the other is on off-white neutral.

I also have a couple pair of cargo style sweat pants from Walmart.

Wide Leg Jeans

A definite must-have fashion trend for 2024 is a pair of wide leg jeans! The wide leg jean is different from the flare style jean. The flare style is narrow through the leg and then flares out at the ankles. A wide leg jean is wide all the way down the leg. Although both styles are trending for 2024, the wide leg jean is particularly on trend and you will see these everywhere this spring and summer.

This pair from Target is a recent favorite of mine.

This is one of my favorite trends. A wide leg jean is a little more elevated and is flattering on most body types. They will accentuate your legs and paired with a tailored shirt will look oh so classy.

Flared Leggings

Another pant style you will want to add to your spring and summer wardrobe is the flared legging. These started to gain popularity in 2023 and will dominate in 2024. This is another trend that I’m personally loving. They are so flattering and comfortable.

My favorite flared legging is from Aerie and I have them in several colors – the most recent being a pair in this beautiful dark blue color!

Fashion Trends: Jackets

Blazers

No fashion trend completes an outfit better than an on trend blazer. This year you will see less of the super-oversized styles and more relaxed or tailored styles. Blazers can be worn with jeans and a tee, dressed up for the workplace, and everything in between.

Price points are as widespread as the style choices. I will link some on trend blazers for 2024 at different price points for you to browse.

Lady Jackets

This trend also appeared in 2023 and will continue in 2024. I will have to say that this one surprised me when it gained popularity last year. Traditionally viewed as a style for older women, young women are getting on the lady jacket bandwagon. You will see them in stores that target a younger demographic as well as the classic stores like Talbots.

Fashion Trends: Tops

Elevated Basics

The quiet luxury inspired trend will continue for 2024. This means you will see lots of elevated basics and preppy styles. Think quality pieces in neutral tones. Button downs that look effortlessly chic paired with wide leg jeans or pants. Be sure to check out this post on the quiet luxury asthetic!

This also includes stripes, particularly small stripes like this one from Walmart.

Polo Collars

The polo style collar has made it’s way into sweaters, sweatshirts, and pullover style tops. This will continue to trend in 2024, and this is a very wearable trend.

Shop Elevated Basics

What is not on trend for 2024 are shirts with cut outs. The cold shoulder tops have been out for quite a while now, but you will also see less cut out styles in general.
