How to Wear Crochet

Crochet is making a comeback thanks to the revival of retro 1960s and 1970s looks of the countercultural movement. The bohemian aesthetic embraced handmade crafts, making crochet a symbol of free-spirited self-expression.

From then on, crochet remained a prominent feature in fashion cycles, popping back up in various forms.

Wondering how to get the look? See here for how to wear crochet.

Crochet Tops

A crochet top paired with a high-waisted pencil skirt creates a modernized look. Or wear it with jeans for a relaxed outfit that leans into some retro style. The key is what is worn underneath. Most crochet tops are light and see-through like lace, so they require something underneath if it’s not lined. A form-fitted tank top will usually do the trick. Choose one in the same color as your crochet, as seen here with a tan tank or choose a contrasting color.  Shop crochet top.

Crochet Wrap

Ever since singer Stevie Nicks stepped on stage in the ‘70s wearing layers of shawls, dusters and lace, the wrap has been in style, getting away from grandma warmers to an edgy, ethereal rock ‘n’ roll esthetic. Grab a crochet wrap and drape it over a sleek maxi dress for a slinky look for a night out. Oh, and it will keep you warm too. Those grandmas were very wise!  Shop crochet wrap.

Crochet Vest

Use crochet as a layering tool to add texture and visual interest to your look. Wear a crocheted vest or cardigan over a simple tank top in a contrasting color, and you have a unique look that shows the intricate weave of the crochet. Try it with a circle skirt for a breezy summer outfit. Or you can bring the look into a more boho style with layered necklaces, a bolero hat and booties.  Shop crochet vest.

The art of crochet has endured the test of time, weaving its way through decades of fashion. Now that you know how to wear crochet, which look will you try?
