Do you keep defaulting to the same outfits when it comes to styling a white shirt? Have you been playing it a bit too safe? Up your wardrobe game with these white button-down outfit ideas that you can try for yourself.

Styling a button-down shirt

Androgynous meets dressy in this Thom Browne-inspired tuxedo look. The undefined, masculine silhouette is given a feminine twist with the addition of heels.

How to style a button-down shirt

Feminine contrast

A more feminine look sees the same loose blazer paired with a lace midi-skirt and a skinny belt for some waist definition.

Shake things up with an asymmetrical skirt. This outfit is a perfect example of formal and casual elements together.

Retro knit

Add some edge with a knitted vintage jumper and some ankle boots.

Oh, hello parka, we didn’t forget you. A stylish, lightweight coat is a must-have piece that is both practical and fashionable at the same time.

Everyday denim

Less is more with this easy everyday look - a shirt and a denim skirt are really all you need. Slip on a pair of heeled mules for a trendy touch.

Modest chic

For a more modest look, match your white blouse with an ankle-length skirt. Throw a blazer over the top and belt it to create a stylish and dressed-up outfit.

Boss lady

A pair of over-the-knee boots, black shorts, and a blazer is what you need to create this boss lady look. Add a pair of sunglasses for that ultimate ‘don't mess with me’ vibe.

Minimalist street style

Minimalism meets street style with a white button-down shirt, turned-up asymmetric jeans, and combat boots. Tuck the shirt in on one side only to add even more of an asymmetric twist.

Shirt dress

Frame your crossover jeans with a flowy shirt dress and give your funky waistline the attention it deserves.

Scarf focus

Adding a broach to your scarf is a great way to jazz it up. Who said that you couldn’t accessorize scarves? Go for a bright one to add a pop of color to a jeans and shirt look.

Dressed down office

Office meets casual in this outfit. Blur the boundaries by dressing down a blazer and pants with a pair of sandals.

As you can see, many of these outfits that I put together were inspired by catwalk and designer fashions. For me, they are a great source of inspiration when I’m not sure what to wear or when I’m looking for something new. Being inspired by these looks doesn’t mean that you have to replicate them exactly - you can take aspects of them and incorporate them into your own style.
