Coconut Body Scrub

I love using body scrubs to exfoliate my whole body! This one is coconut scrub is scrubby enough to work great on my feet, my knees, my elbows, my tummy, and more! The only place I wouldn't use this is my face as I find it a bit too harsh for it.

I also love making body scrubs at home because they are cost-effective, easy to make, and I can customize the ingredients I use to my exact preference.

I have made a lot of sugar scrubs in my life and I feel like I have really perfected the basic recipe to be just perfect! So please make this recipe exactly as directed, and then next time, if you want to tweak something, go for it.

How do you use coconut body scrub?

  • Wet skin
  • Grab a bit of body scrub in one hand and apply it to where you want to exfoliate
  • Massage in a circular motion until the scrub stops scrubbing (the sugar crystals will eventually dissolve) or when you are done
  • Clean with water
  • Repeat a couple of times a week or as often as desired

What ingredients do I need to make coconut sugar scrub?

How do you make a coconut body scrub?

To make a brown sugar hand scrub you will simply combine Granulated Sugar, Coconut Oil, Unscented Castile Soap, and Young Living's Stress Away Essential Oil. You will want to store this in an air-tight container.

How many times a week should you use a body scrub?

Most people enjoy exfoliating their entire body 1-3 times a week. But you can do this less often or more often as desired. Note that all sugar scrubs have a different consistency and if they are less scrubby, they can typically be used more often. If your skin is more sensitive, you will want to scrub less often.

How long does coconut sugar scrub last?

Homemade sugar scrubs can easily last for 6 months IF they are kept in air-tight containers, free from extra moisture, out of direct sunlight and in a cool and dry location. Keeping these in your shower (where I totally keep mine) is not the ideal location for making your scrubs last longer. Whoops.

However, I will say that I have never had a sugar scrub go bad before I had a chance to use it.

You will know a sugar scrub is bad because it will smell rancid (that is due to your coconut oil or other carrier oil going bad). If your scrub smells bad, don't use it. Throw it away and make a new one. Thankfully, these are so inexpensive to make, it is really no big deal.

I make small batches of my scrub (1 cup of sugar at a time) to ensure that I am able to use it all before it goes bad.

Why do you add essential oils to your coconut scrub?

I love adding essential oils to scrubs because they can add both wonderful scents and have therapeutic benefits as well. This sugar hand scrub contains Young Living's essential oils which is the only brand I recommend.

I love to use this scrub to exfoliate, refresh, and cleanse!
