Create an adorable accessory bag for your iPad or other favorite technology.

I carry my iPad with me pretty much wherever I go so really needed a soft case to protect it in my bag. Kunin felt is the perfect option because it is durable and stable as well as soft. One of the best things about making DIY felt iPad cover is the versatility. It can be made in any size, colors and combinations with favorite fabrics.

Materials and Supplies Needed

  • Kunin Premium Felt (2 Pieces 9×12)
  • Fabric Scraps
  • Sewing Machine
  • Straight Pins
  • Scissors
Instructions

To get started, make sure that the felt pieces are large enough to fit around your iPad when the sides get sewn together. I have the 2021 iPad so it is 10.2 inches tall which worked perfectly. If you have to trim the felt for the front and back (or use larger pieces of felt) – just make sure you have about 3/4 inch more on each side than your device so that when the sewing is complete, it fits inside.

Remove all sticker tags from the felt before beginning.

Step One

Use fabric scraps to create a design on the front piece of felt for your cover. This can be hand stitched or sewn on a sewing machine. There are also great fabric glues that can be used if sewing is not your favorite. I created a rainbow using some of my favorite rainbow scraps. Felt is also great for creating part of the design. With a rainbow, white felt is perfect for clouds.

Step Two

Sew the fabric/felt design to the front piece of felt. Add any stitching designs during this step too. Trim all loose pieces of thread. This can be done in stages based on how many layers of fabric being sewn on.

Step Three

Place the front and back pieces of the cover together and pin to hold in place. Zig-zag stitch around the edges on the left, right and bottom sides. If desired, fold the front down a smidge at the top before sewing to create an easy opening for getting the iPad in and out of the pouch.

Sew around the edges with a zig-zag stitch in a contrasting color.

Step Four

Trim those last threads and remove all pins. Place your iPad inside and keep it safe from scratches and damage while traveling and running around with it in your larger purse or bag.
