Today, I’m going to share with you a very simple DIY hair growth spray. This is not technically my original recipe! I got inspiration from a licensed trichologist who is treating my husband's bald patch.

When we couldn't find the hair mist that the trichologist suggested, I created this spray based on the ingredients in that recommended products, as well as what was included in similar products on the market.

Here's how to make your own homemade hair spray for hair growth with only five ingredients.

Tools and materials:

  • Distilled water
  • Rosewater
  • Vegetable glycerin
  • Aloe vera oil
  • Lemongrass essential oil
  • Tablespoon
  • Measuring cup
  • Funnel
  • Spray bottle

Before we begin, I’m going to talk you through the different ingredients we’re using to make the natural hair growth spray.

1. Distilled water

The first thing I’m using is distilled water and the reason I’m using distilled water is because it is more stable than regular water, and it’s used in a lot of cosmetic products.

If you don’t have distilled water at hand, the next best option is boiled water; boiled water will work just as well.

2. Rosewater

The second ingredient is rosewater, which helps soften your hair and helps with issues such as dandruff.

3. Vegetable glycerin

The next ingredient is vegetable glycerin. Vegetable glycerin is a humectant that draws water from the environment to your hair.

So you know that the hair spray is not just liquid on your hair, but it’s actually going to keep the moisture locked into your hair. Your hair will stay hydrated, soft, and supple.

4. Aloe vera oil

Then we have our aloe vera oil. Aloe vera contains proteolytic enzymes, which repair dead skin cells on the scalp. It also acts as a great conditioner and leaves your hair smooth and shiny.

Don’t take raw aloe vera because when you mix it with water, it will attract bacteria to it.

5. Lemongrass essential oil

The last ingredient is lemongrass essential oil. Lemongrass essential oil is particularly helpful for you if you have dandruff or an itchy scalp.

Combine the ingredients

Now that we have our ingredients, it’s time to combine them. The measurements are as follows:

  • 2 cups distilled or boiled water
  • 1/4 cup rosewater
  • 1 tablespoon glycerin:
  • 5 drops aloe extract
  • 3 drops lemongrass essential oil

I find it helpful to place a funnel on top of the spray bottle and pour the ingredients into that. Give the bottle a good shake, and then you’re done!
