I love using natural materials when I’m making things.

Here, I’m going to show you how to make a DIY necklace using shells to create a coastal grandma glam look.

Let me show you what to do!

Tools and materials:

  • Oyster shells
  • Gold spray paint
  • Gold chain
  • Glue gun
Oyster shells

1. Collect oyster shells

First, go to the beach and collect some oyster shells.

If you don’t live near a beach then I’m sure you can buy these online as well!

Washing shells

2. Wash the shells

Proceed to wash the shells in warm, soapy water to get rid of any dirt.

Letting shells dry

3. Let shells dry

Spread the shells out on a flat surface to allow them to dry.

Spraying shells

4. Spray shells

Now, for the fun part, it’s time to spray the shells with gold spray paint.

I recommend laying out a newspaper for this or doing it on a surface that you don't mind getting messy.

5. Attach to necklace

Next, attach the shells to a necklace using hot glue. Apply the glue to the necklace and stick the shells on.

Continue to do this all the way around.

And here we have the finished look! I absolutely love the appearance of this - who would have thought that we created this from some shells on the beach?

From a distance, it looks like it is real gold, and I like how close up you can see the indentations on the shells.

I’ve paired it with a big gold belt for a killer look.
