Do you have a wedding or other fancy event coming up, but just can’t find the perfect dress?

Follow this tutorial for the simplest, most inexpensive solution, and make your own dress from a giant scarf or sheet!

Tools and materials:

  • Scarf or sheet
  • Jar lid
  • Hair elastic
Wrapping sheet

1. Wrap and tie

Wrap your giant scarf or sheet around your body under your arms and then tie the open corners over one shoulder.

Making side knot

2. Make a side knot

Wrap the back of the scarf around your front to the opposite side.

Jar lid

Grab a straight-sided jar lid.

Wrapping lid inside fabric

Wrap the lid inside the wrapped fabric at the position you want a side knot, so that the lid is on the inside of your scarf dress.

Securing with hair elastic

Then, secure the lid inside the fabric with a hair elastic.

Clever knot

Once the wrapped lid is on the inside of the dress, the outside only shows a clever knot, but no bulge.

Ta-da! That’s all there was to it! Depending on the size of your scarf or sheet, this can be a floor-length, midi or cocktail-length dress!
