Tip 1: Brighten under the eyes

1. Apply a lighter concealer

Take a concealer that’s half a shade lighter than your foundation and apply it underneath the bottom half of your eyes.

As we age, this part of the eyes starts to look redder and tends to sink a little. The goal is to brighten the area, making it look fuller, which is synonymous with a youthful look.

Then, dab it to blend with a makeup sponge. If you have many fine lines in this area, make sure the concealer is thin and hydrating.

If you are wearing fuller coverage foundation, you can afford to go with a denser concealer or even a lighter shade.

2. Apply setting powder

Use a makeup cloth to dab on a slightly lighter setting powder.

Tip 2: Lift the corners of the eyes with eyeshadow

1. Apply matte brown eyeshadow

Take a tissue or paper towel and place it on the outer corner of the eye, angled up toward the tail of your eyebrow, like so:

Tissue against eye

Then, apply a brown, matte eyeshadow that’s slightly darker than your skin tone.

Keep it perpendicular to the highest point of your mobile eyelid. So where the eye creases, go outwards.

Sweep this shade from the outer corner of the eyelid, down toward the middle of your lashes.

If you take the tissue away, you can already see the eye lift makeup taking shape:

2. Apply a deeper brown eyeshadow

Put the tissue back in place.

Then, using a slightly darker, matte brown eyeshadow, apply it starting at the tissue, not much higher than the mobile lid itself, until the middle of the eyelashes.

This will help give an almond shape to your eyes and a beautifully lifted appearance.

You can go in and soften the line if you want a less intense makeup eye lift.

3. Apply an even darker brown eyeshadow

Using an angled eyeliner brush, apply a darker brown to intensify the outer edge.

This eyeshadow technique is an excellent alternative to eyeliner, especially if you have hooded eyes, since it’s much more gradual and forgiving.

Plus, you still get the gorgeous, winged effect when you open your eyes.

This look may not be for you if you find that with your hooded eyes, the fold goes way past your eye.

4. Curl your eyelashes

Give your eyelashes a little crimp with an individual eyelash curler, concentrating the curling to the outer edges of your eyes.

5. Apply mascara

Next, apply your favorite mascara to define your lashes.

6. Apply liquid eyeliner under the lash line

Another great technique for hooded eyes is to go in underneath your top lashes with a bit of liquid eyeliner.

This is a great alternative if you’ve tried applying eyeliner above your lashes but it ends up not showing. It makes your lashes appear fuller without losing any space on your eyelid.

Tip 3: Add false eyelashes to the outer edges, with a gap

1. Cut your false lashes

Choose false lashes that get gradually longer toward the outside. Hold up your false lashes with a tweezer and cut off the first half.

2. Apply the outer pieces of the false lashes

Then, apply the outer pieces of the false lashes to the outer half of your eyes.

Since this type goes from short to long, it accentuates the winged look.

If you’ve applied black eyeliner close to the root of your eyelashes, you can attach the false lashes to the skin, leaving a small gap between your natural lashes and the false ones, which will create an even more lifted look.
