False eyelashes really make a difference if you have small eyes or heavy bangs. They make your eyes stand out more and not get lost on your face. So, this tutorial is all about false lashes for beginners.

Prepping eyelashes ready for false lashes

1. Prep your natural eyelashes

Before applying false eyelashes, curl your natural lashes and apply mascara.

That’s right – apply mascara to your own lashes before you put on false eyelashes. That will help provide a good base – think of it as a shelf to put your false eyelashes on.

How to use false lashes: you can use just one

2. Measure and cut your false eyelashes

You don’t want to lay the eyelashes too close to the inner corner of your eye, because they will irritate your eye when you blink. So, if your eyes are small, you might only need one of the false eyelashes that typically come in a set of two.

If that is the case for you, you can just use one eyelash and cut in half. But measure first, because some false eyelashes come tapered on one end, so cutting it in half will only give you one usable piece.

Lay the eyelash on your eyelid to check the width you need. Cut the eyelash as necessary, always cutting from the outside edge of the false eyelash.

Tips for false lashes

3. Apply your false eyelashes

Once you’ve cut the lash, roll it between your fingers to loosen up the band a little. That will make it more comfortable to wear.

Applying glue to the false eyelash

Squeeze a bit of glue onto some paper and let it sit for two or three minutes to get tacky before you apply it to the false eyelashes. If you use it too soon after squeezing it out of the tube, it won’t stick properly.

Use the end of a thin craft paint brush to pick up the glue and apply it to the band of the false eyelash. Make sure to get the glue right to the ends of the lash band.

How to put false lashes on for beginners

Use a pair of tweezers to place the false eyelashes on your eyelid, lining up the out edge of the lashes with the outer edge of your lid.

Once the false eyelashes are in place, you can use your tweezers to tweak the positioning as necessary.

Can you put fake lashes on with mascara?

Do false eyelashes go on before or after makeup?

Both! I applied makeup before and now I'm going in with eyeliner. Apply eyeliner right over the top of the false eyelash band. This gives your eyelashes more prominence and hides the band.

Removing false lashes so you can reuse them

How remove & reuse false eyelashes

You can reuse false eyelashes if you take good care of them after you wear them. Use a cotton swab dipped into eye makeup remover. That will loosen the glue.

How to remove false lashes

Now just take the outer corner of your false eyelash and wiggle it – never pull – and lift it off your eyelid.

Don’t try cleaning the false eyelashes right away. Let the glue dry overnight and then you can just peel the glue off the band and store the eyelashes in the original packaging.

I can make one pair of false eyelashes last for months this way!
