5 Must-Read Tips on How to Apply False Lashes for Beginners

If you are like most people and find the prospect of putting on false eyelashes intimidating, then follow this quick tutorial for a step-by-step guide to false lashes for beginners.
You’ll get comfortable with applying and trimming false eyelashes, as well as what to do about eyeliner and mascara when you are wearing false eyelashes.
Let's get started!
Tools and materials:
- One pair of false eyelashes with a lightweight band
- Eyelash glue
- Manicure scissors
- Eyelash curler
- Tweezers
- Eyeliner
- Tissues
- Q-tips
1. Should you apply mascara before false lashes?
You can apply false eyelashes either before or after doing the rest of your eye makeup - it's up to you. In this tutorial, I applied my false eyelashes after I did my eye makeup, but I added some eyeliner and mascara after as well (read on to find out why).
Most false eyelashes you buy have a bit of curve to them, so before using them, use an eyelash curler to give your own lashes a light curl and help your false eyelashes lay naturally.
2. How to trim false lashes
If the adhesive strip on your false eyelashes is too wide for your lash bed, then you can trim them down a little. Remove the lash strip from your false eyelashes, and without using any glue, lay the false eyelashes on your lash bed to see if they fit.
You don’t want your false eyelashes poking into your tear duct area, so if they are too wide, use your manicure scissors to clip a bit off from the longest side.
3. How to apply false eyelashes
Squeeze a bit of eyelash glue onto a tissue. Now, dip the end of a Q-tip into the glue and apply the glue to the back of the false eyelash strip. Make sure to get the glue right to the edges.
Place the false eyelashes on your eyelash bed and lightly press in. Use a thin eyeliner brush to help you press the false eyelashes strip into your natural lash line. Pay extra close attention to the inner and outer ends of your false eyelashes, to ensure they are securely applied.
Tip: let the eyelash glue dry a tad before you apply the eyelashes. That way the false eyelashes will grab onto your lash bed better and not slide around.
4. How to apply eyeliner with false lashes
Sometimes the eyelash glue dries a bit shiny, which is a giveaway that you are wearing false eyelashes. To hide the shine, apply a little liquid or gel eyeliner to the top of your lash line, using an angled eyeliner brush.
5. Applying mascara after false lashes
Finally, if you want extra drama, apply your regular mascara to your false eyelashes. Apply the mascara at the base of the eyelashes and blend it in.
